    Job Description:


    The Certified Physicist is responsible for the design optimization, technical evaluation, and precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans under the guidance of the Administrative Director/Manager.

    The Certified Physicist collaborates with the Radiation Oncology Director and the Radiation Safety Officer to assure the maintenance of a quality management program and safety for all radiation oncology activities.

    Scope


    • Performs, documents, and provides documentation of calibration, maintenance,compliance testing, quality control and performance evaluations on all Radiation Oncology equipment, according to State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations to insure licensure is maintained.
    Collaborates, advises, performs, and supervises treatment planning and dosimetry. Verifies all prescription calculations and notifies physician of any discrepancies.

    Reviews, changes, and writes policy and procedures periodically and formally review on a yearly basis. Observes established policies and procedures regarding department and hospital guidelines, quality control, radiation safety, environmental and infection control.


    Provides staff with in service and continuing education lectures relating to radiation safety and the implementation of new techniques or procedures and functions as a resource person.


    Informs, advises, and collaborates with department supervisors and radiation oncologist to assure patient safety and quality on a continual basis.


    Generates treatment plans utilizing computer isodose plans or manual calculations which achieve optimum tumor volume coverage as outlined in the physicians prescriptions and performs specific dose calculations on individual patients upon request.

    May perform as the facility Radiation Safety Officer.

    Supervises all aspects of brachytherapy.

    Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required

    Ph D or Masters Degree in Medical Physics or DMP Degree required

    Board eligible by Therapeutic Medical Physics required Licensure in the state of practice asrequired For care sites in Colorado provisional RMP/QI/QE(t) required

    Preferred

    Five (5) years of experience in Medical Physics preferred

    Assures the safety of staff and patients through implementation of all State and Federal regulations which govern activities utilizing radioactive materials and x-ray producing equipment.


    Physical Requirements:
    Hearing/listening, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, sitting, speaking, squatting/kneeling, standing, and walking.
