    Overview:

    The Director of Emergency Department is the designated leader responsible for providing the overall leadership and direction for the Emergency Department. The Director has 24-hour responsibility and accountability for planning, organizing, developing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the human and material resources necessary for quality patient care and effective nursing operations. The Director participates in assessing the environment, forecasting trends, transmitting values, communicating ideas, developing and implementing standards and initiating programs and systems.

    Responsibilities:

    Principal Accountabilities

    Assists with development of ED-wide patient care programs, policies, and procedures that describe how patients nursing care needs are assessed, evaluated, and met.
    Assists with implementation of an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients in ED
    Assures coordination of patient care in ED by working in collaboration with ED physicians, ancillary departments and inpatient departments.
    Ensures the continuous and timely availability of nursing services to patients.
    Facilitates design and development of appropriate standards of patient care based on nursing theory.
    Supports design, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate delivery of care models for patients.
    Major focus on ED and Patient Flow, Fast Track system for lower acuity volume
    Interfaces with community, EMS, Fire and Police Departments to ensure that we portray a positive image of Seton
    Creates and maintains an environment to ensure that nursing services remain viable, attractive, and satisfying to patients.

    Quality Management

    Responsible for the review & analysis of ED Initiative/Patient Flow results. Supports action plans developed from analysis.
    Prepares reports for Executives and the Board of Directors as needed.

    Fiscal Accountability/Productivity

    In collaboration with Supervisor:

    Analyzes statistics and takes appropriate action as necessary.
    Implements cost containment measures when applicable.
    Implement revenue enhancement ideas.
    Demonstrates effective time management.

    Regulatory Compliance

    Monitors compliance with all applicable external agency regulations.
    Ensures compliance with all personnel to safety standards, Hazardous Materials Management program, Universal Precautions, and Infection Control.

    Human Resource Management

    Demonstrates sound management and leadership principles.
    Promotes associate growth and development through effective use of resources.
    Uses effective interviewing skills to hire qualified and compassionate staff.
    Demonstrates awareness of and ability to apply knowledge of current developments in healthcare.
    Ensure AHMC - Seton MC Mission and Values are reflected in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
    Participate in professional organizations and activities.

    Operational

    Flexes staffing based on the needs of the Medical Center.
    Maintains budget and productivity accountability.
    Implements mechanisms to maintain financial viability of areas of responsibility.

    Accountability

    Maintains confidentiality of all patient and hospital related communications, documents, and records.
    Performs required duties in accordance with prescribed hospital policies and procedures.
    Maintains an awareness of Hazardous Materials and is compliant with safety and infection control policies.
    In accordance with the mission and philosophy of the AHMC - Seton Medical Center, performs work consistent with the standards of Seton Medical Center, the community, and regulatory agencies.
    Maintains a positive attendance record and is prompt in reporting to work.
    Assesses personal learning needs and utilizes available resources in self?development including new equipment/products used in performance of job.

    Accomplishes objectives within prescribed time frames by prioritizing and organizing workload.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATION:

    BSN
    MSN preferred

    EXPERIENCE:

    Two-Five (2-5) years nursing experience preferred
    One (1) year nursing management preferred.

    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:

    California Registered Nurse license required.

    OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Computer literate.
