Description

Performs treatment planning, dose calculations, and quality assurance for the Department of Radiation Oncology under the guidance of the Radiation Oncologist.

Core Competencies

• Performs computer aided dosimetry, including 3D and IMRT treatment planning and dose calculations for prescribed doses by Radiation Oncologists.
  
  
• Assists physicist in weekly, monthly and yearly machine calibrations and checks when requested.
  
  
• Supervises the quality of CT scanning, PET and MRI scans for treatment planning purposes.
  
  
• Manages and supervises the input of treatment parameters into Eclipse treatment planning system and ARIA.
  
  
• Contours treatment fields and calculates treatment dose in treatment planning software (Varian Eclipse) under the prescription orders of the Radiation Oncologist.
  
  
• Supervises therapists in regards to simulating oncology patients for TX planning and dose calculations.
  
  
• Provides clinical instruction to radiation therapy students.
  
  
• Trains other hospital personnel in Oncology procedures as required by the department.
  
  
• Fabricates treatment devices as needed for the treatment of patients.
  
  
• Answers telephone inquiries of a technical nature from doctors, patients, and hospital personnel.
  
  
• Provides healthcare services in own job category to all age groups.
  
  
• Ensures familiarity with program goals and objectives.
  
  
• Demonstrates competency in interpersonal relationships with all age groups as applicable to job functions.
  
  
• Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (BPI projects, task forces, etc) when requested.
  
  
• Assists the Radiation Physicist in any Radiation Oncology projects as needed.
  
  

License / Certification Requirements

Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) eligible Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) Certification within 18 months of hire

Compensation Range

$ $107.88 / Hour
