    Our Summer 2024 Internship is June 10-August 16, 2024.

    As interns at Blue Shield of California, interns:

    • Must reside in the state of California for the duration of the internship
    • Participate in impactful projects during their 10-week program
    • 10-week curriculum designed to familiarize interns with BSC, leadership development, exposure to the health care industry, and more
    • Are invited to participate in BSC employee events such as Employee Resource Groups, Employee volunteer activities, and more.

    Your Role

    Corporate Accounting:

    The Corporate Accounting team is responsible for the financial accounting and reporting for Blue Shield of California and its subsidiaries. Our dynamic team is looking for a motivated Accounting intern to join us at this mission-driven organization to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced healthcare insurance industry. You will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced accounting professionals. The internship program is designed to provide you with practical exposure to various aspects of accounting within the healthcare insurance sector.

    Your Work

    Corporate Accounting -

    In this role, you will:

    • Journal Entries: Prepare journal entries and adjustments to record financial transactions.
    • Reconciliations: Participate in maintaining and reconciling the general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
    • Audit Support: Compile documentation to support internal and external audits.
    • Financial Reporting: Draft financial statements for submission to regulatory authorities.
    • Financial Analysis: Analyze and explain fluctuations in the financial statements.
    • Process Improvement: Participate in special projects and assignments to strengthen controls and transform

    Your Knowledge and Experience

    Corporate Accounting - Required Qualifications:

    • Must reside in the state of California for the duration of the internship, with ability to be productive while working remotely
    • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree with an emphasis in accounting, finance, economics, and/or healthcare highly desirable
    • Strong accounting knowledge with an understanding of financial statements
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Eager to learn and disciplined in time management

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Understanding of healthcare ecosystem; health plan and payer economics
    • Experience with Hyperion Essbase

    Pay Range:

    The pay range for this role is: $ 25.00 to $ 30.00 for California.
