    Description

    Position Summary

    The GIS Tech I will oversee the operation of the Center of Excellence in Geospatial information Science Lab and participate in all its activities.

    Essential Function, Duties, and Responsibilities

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Geospatial Information Science (GIS) laboratory.
    • Search and compile geospatial data for projects and generate outputs
    • Conduct digital image processing and perform GIS analysis
    • Assists in field data collections, conduct lab analysis, and compile results
    • Assist students with lab exercises and research projects
    • Install and update software
    • Print posters
    • Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisors

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Federal Aviation Administration's Remote Pilot certificate is required. If Candidate does not have one, he/she should be able to obtain the certificate soon after employment.
    • Experience with software installation and update, trouble shooting and upkeep of GIS lab computers
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as a team player.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed.
    • A broad understanding of geospatial information science

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related field is required.
    • Understanding of geospatial information science is preferred.
    • Familiarity with Geospatial Information Science device and software is required.
    • Experience with computer networking, software installation and update, and troubleshooting is preferred.

    Physical Requirements

    • Light sedentary office work.
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
    • Driving ability.
    • Ability to conduct field work
