St. John 30 September 2023 Overall Purpose: Why the Job Exists & What You Will Do This position is a critical member of the LeMar Leadership Team and specifically oversees the Des Moines LeMar plant operation on all shifts. This position leads the production of high-quality structural products for our customers in an ethical, focused, and professional manner. Essential Job Functions & Expected Outcomes: Your Accountabilities in the Role
  • Essential Functions:
  • Work within a team environment with their team of production leaders, to ensure a fluid shift handover, continuation of jobs and projects, and other ongoing items which must be addressed.
  • Will oversee the entire production team within the Des Moines LeMar Plant.
  • Will prioritize team members, production jobs and improvement projects for the Des Moines LeMar Plant on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Track, maintain and work to improve specific department and plant wide performance metrics of OCE (On-Time, Complete and Error-Free) through training, continuous improvement projects, etc.
  • Will provide leadership to the production crew while coaching, mentoring, and training a lean culture.
  • Will communicate to purchasing any material and consumable shortages while assisting in sequencing, ship dates, and deliveries of jobs to customers.
  • Will work with detailers and engineering to resolve print questions and ambiguity.
  • Will promote and lead production team members in all aspects of 5S and LDMS principles.
  • Ensure that all safety policies, procedures, and concepts are always adhered to.
  • Will utilize computer programs to ensure production orders/controls are tracked/entered properly.
  • Will create and utilize excel spreadsheets for quality logs, SOP's, etc.
  • Responsible for cross-training, developing, and monitoring the training/skill level status of direct reports.
  • Ability to train others on production controls, processes, equipment, etc.
  • All other projects or items which may be assigned from LeMar Plant Leadership or CTB, Inc.
  • Authorities Related:
  • Reject or accept incoming materials
  • Hiring, Firing and/or other Disciplinary Actions
  • Remove or place employee on a project
  • Authorize training in specific areas
  • Quality signoff on production parts, weldments, etc.

    Position Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelors degree required; experience will be taken into account if not degree.
  • Experience: 3-5 years manufacturing experience is preferred, specifically within the steel industry. Additional experience within structural steel manufacturing within a weld/fabrication setting role is preferred. Prior work in a lead or supervisory role is required.
  • Certification(s): N/A
  • Functional Skills: Ability to become certified in forklift and overhead crane operations required. Ability to read basic print facts and follow production orders. Ability to read tape measure to ensure accuracy.
  • Technology Aptitude/Skills: Ability to run Microsoft Office Suite; Ability to be trained in operation of JD Edwards/AS400/Oracle. Experience in JD Edwards/AS400/Oracle preferred but not required.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Leadership/Behaviors: Self-starter who can work independently and learn quickly. Ability to communicate and work with diverse individuals. Proven knowledge of production management, best practices and Lead manufacturing.

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines .

    • Physical Requirements to Perform Essential Functions:
  • Ability to stand and work 8 to 12-hour shifts. Highly frequent standing and walking.
  • Occasional grasping, pushing, pulling, flipping, and lifting of sheet metal and other materials that weigh up to 100 lbs.
  • Occasional entry into confined spaces
    • Environmental Conditions & Travel:
  • Seasonal temperature conditions in the plant vary – summers are hot and humid in the building and winters are cold when working near open overhead doors.
  • PPE required (such as long pants, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and hard hats at times)
  • Working with very sharp steel products
  • Loud and dusty environment.
  • Working around fork trucks and other moving equipment
  • Travel: Limited
