    Description

    Overall Job Summary:

    Reporting to Director of Discovery Chemistry, the Synthetic Chemist will serve as a member of chemistry project teams, contributing through synthetic and medicinal chemistry to advance projects from hit identification through nomination of development candidates. This role will exist within a culture of scientific excellence, rigorous innovation, collaboration, and teamwork. This individual will have a track record of scientific achievement and laboratory experience equivalent to or beyond the doctoral degree.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Design and execute complex chemical syntheses to deliver high quality molecules for biological assays to advance discovery programs from hit identification through development candidate nomination
    • Analyze, interpret and visualize scientific data
    • Report progress of scientific findings to supervisor and chemistry team
    • Employ safe laboratory practices and operate in a team environment
    • Implement new technologies as directed to enhance productivity and efficiency across the chemistry department
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
    • Model Values and contribute to scientific excellence within Discovery Chemistry

    Education:

    • Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry
    • M.S. in synthetic organic chemistry plus 3+ years' experience

    Experience:

    • Preferably, chemistry experience in biotech/pharma and/or postdoctoral research; ideally, with a record of key contributions to projects enabling completion or progression through key milestones

    Technical Skills:

    • Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and proficiency in synthesis of small molecules
    • Awareness of medicinal chemistry principles and related disciplines
    • Experience in use of relevant laboratory equipment (e.g., LCMS, HPLC, Flash Chromatography, NMR, microwave)
    • Demonstrated ability to resolve key scientific challenges using available information and technical expertise
    • Expertise in the interpretation, analysis, documentation, and presentation of key findings

    Leadership Skills:

    • Ability to work within a team of laboratory scientists to achieve program objectives
    • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

    Communication Skills:

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to communicate technical and cross-functional data to team members and program leaders
