- Under minimal supervision, dedicated to internal surgery scheduling from physician's orders as directed by the physician
- Schedule anesthesia and surgical assistant and any outside surgical representatives and/or equipment necessary for procedure
- Provide patient with pre-operative testing information ordered by physician
- May be required to obtain any pre-operative testing results requested by physician and take appropriate actions as directed by Physician
- Obtain necessary insurance authorization and pre-certification from insurance company with the proper Procedure (CPT) and Diagnosis codes (ICD-10
- Communicate to the patient surgical information, all necessary prep the date/time/location of the appointment
- May help orient, train and assign work of lower level employees
- Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards
- Planning and scheduling surgeries with the patient, provider and hospital
- Inquiring and Obtaining Authorization, pre-certification and/or pre-determination on scheduled surgical procedures
- Answers all incoming calls; assesses callers' needs and directs to appropriate personnel
- Schedules new patients, patient referrals and returning patients in computer system in accordance with physician and/or office guidelines
- Cancels/reschedules appointments according to physician schedule changes; notifies appropriate clinic personnel
- Obtains and enters all authorization and correspondence relating to referrals in patients' charts and/or electronic medical records (EMR)
- Collects co-pays, deductible and other out of pocket amounts at time of visit
- Maintains primary office scheduling template containing all physician meetings, satellite schedule, rounding and call coverage
- Arranges for patients to have financial counseling as needed
- Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/practice
- May communicate to patient about surgeries or tests being scheduled and potential prep work needed, inquiring about test specifics from necessary parties and gathering patient information as needed
- May be responsible for follow up on all pre-operative tests to ensure cleared for surgical procedure and communicates with physician and patients if further testing is required before surgery is performed
- May be responsible for scheduling post-operative follow up appointments with Physicians
- Work may require sitting for long periods of time; also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies

Reserve operating room date and time. Schedule anesthesia and surgical assistant and any outside surgical representatives and/or equipment necessary for procedure. Provide patient with pre-operative testing information ordered by physician. May be required to obtain any pre-operative testing results requested by physician and take appropriate actions as directed by Physician. Obtain necessary insurance authorization and pre-certification from insurance company with the proper Procedure (CPT) and Diagnosis codes (ICD-10). Communicate to the patient surgical information, all necessary prep the date/time/location of the appointment. May help orient, train and assign work of lower level employees.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required
At least three (3) years of surgical practice/office work experience including work in insurance authorization, insurance verification and/or scheduling with ability to explain patient responsibility in accordance with their benefits plan (as applicable)
Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology required
Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to multitask
Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) required
Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a calculator, telephone, copier and other such office equipment
It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time
