    Description

    As a Nurse Practitioner in our Cardiology Department, you will be responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership and patient care management across the health care continuum including preventative care, acute care through discharge, and ambulatory care environments. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will incorporate both independent decision-making abilities and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients. This role enhances competency skills through continuing education programs. This role has the ability to provide care to special patient population and those with diverse cultural background. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible to the physician partners and/or supervising physician and the Director of Clinical Operations/designee and functions as an integral part of the medical team.

    The Nurse Practitioner practices under the Board of Registered Nursing California code of regulations, Title 16, Article 8, Section , utilizing the Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures. These are developed in a collaborative effort within the area of specialty incorporating Cedars-Sinai Medical Network goals and represent an interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery.

    Essential job duties and responsibilities include:

    • Assess, diagnose, and manage cardiac issues including but not limited to heart failure, arrhythmias, chest pain, acute coronary syndrome, valvular disease in a variety of settings (floor, ER, and ICU) with collaborating physician. Mostly new consults but also follow up inpatient visits.
    • Medication adjustments dependent on patient's clinical status.
    • Preoperative cardiac evaluation.
    • Order diagnostic studies, tests, labs and review pertinent labs/studies (EKG, echocardiograms, stress tests, etc).
    • Review telemetry.
    • Educate patient on diagnosis, medications, dietary restrictions related to heart disease.
    • Utilize point of care ultrasound for volume management, evaluation for pleural effusions, cardiac function and valvular disease.
    • Communicate with other specialties regarding patient care.
    • Update family/patient as needed/requested.
    • Weekly sign out on patients on the rounding list to other providers.
    • Assist with "in-basket" in advising patients with cardiac issues, review of EKG during nurse visits, review Ziopatch results (started this task as of this month).

    • This is a 5/8's role and will comprise of both in-patient and out-patient care.
    • The general working hours for this position will be: 8am to 5pm.
    • There is no Operating Room duty with this role.
    • There is also no calls or weekends.

    Educational Requirements:

    • Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the Board of Registered Nursing.
    • MSN Degree Required

    License/Certification Requirements:

    • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner license issued by the State of California.
    • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certificate or eligible to obtain.
    • Furnishing number issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
    • National Board Certification for Nurse Practitioner
    • BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

    Experience:

    • Minimum one year Nurse Practitioner experience
    • For Oncology Practices, two (2) years of Nursing experience required, preferred in Oncology setting
    • Three (3) years experience as an Advance Practice Nurse preferred
