  • Public Safety Officer I (Lateral Officers and Academy Graduates)Apply Administrative Operations Los Angeles, California
  • Has peace officer "powers of arrest" authority pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the LAPD while on duty.
  • The department has 2 separate recruitments for Public Safety Officer which include Public Safety Officer I (lateral officers and academy graduates), and Public Safety Officer Trainee (pre-service candidates).
  • Public Safety Officer I (lateral officers and academy graduates):Candidates who have graduated from a California Basic P.O.S.T. recognized police academy and are currently or have previously been employed as a police officer, and candidates who have graduated from a California Basic P.O.S.T. recognized police academy without prior police employment.
  • Public Safety Officer Trainee (pre-service candidates):Candidates who havenotcompleted a California Basic P.O.S.T. recognized police academy.
  • If selected, you will attend the LAPD police academy for a 6-month training program.
  • Upon successful completion of the academy and meeting all other position requirements, you will advance to the Public Safety Officer I position.
  • Minimum Education: High school or equivalent Minimum Experience: 1 year Minimum Field of Expertise: Must possess a valid California Class C Driver's license; completed POST certified Level I Academy (modules A, B, and C), or equivalent out of state training, or have one (1) year experience as a USC Community Service Officer (CSO) and meet the POST or equivalency requirement and possess the State of California Patrol Persons and Firearms permits.
