    Every other weekend required Responsibilities:


    Conducts environmental rounds on units to evaluate: clinical needs, activity level of neighbors, visitors, safety and equipment, housekeeping and maintenance.

    Meets with neighbors and families as necessary to determine needs and expectations of treatment. Coordinates and communicates all needs to supervisor and other departments as necessary.

    Maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.

    Acknowledgment and respect of neighbors' rights with adherence to the Patient Bill of Rights.
    Works directly with the physician or independently with neighbors to administer treatments under the order of the physician. Observes neighbor's condition and reactions to the prescribed treatment and records each appropriately.

    Explains and provides to the neighbor an understanding of the procedures taking place, the expectations they may have, and to answer questions to allay fear and gain acceptance and cooperation of the neighbor.

    Follows treatment prescribed by the physicians making judgments / suggestions as to their application and tolerance of the neighbor, to a greater level of expertise and physiologic background.

    Uses a variety of gas machines, ventilators and other equipment related to the treatment.

    Requires an understanding of their operations so that adjustments may be made and necessary calibrations performed to fit the prescribed treatment.

    Maintains equipment and supplies in a clean, well-repaired condition. May wash, disinfect and clean various apparatus. Makes minor adjustments and repairs as might be possible. Notifies supervisor whenever necessary.

    Adheres to facility requirements for documentation including, adhering to orders on MAR, charting and all other records as required by facility and in use protocols.

    Initiates care plan based on MDS assessment and includes discharge planning on admission.
    Reviews and updates ICP based on new data and/or change in neighbor's condition. Ensures all neighbors who are able to call for assistance are frequently checked.
    Reports all changes in neighbor's condition to charge nurse and respiratory supervisor. Gives a timely and concise verbal/written report at the end of the shift.

    Performs all functions associated with airway management, including intubation, tracheostomy tube changes, decannulization, tracheostomy and tube care, cuff pressure monitoring and placement of adjunctive speech equipment and oxygen delivery systems.


    Requirements:
    Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
    Must have an RRT NYS license and BLS. Students may be considered as long as RRT obtained within 1 year of employment.
    Prior experience preferred.

    Rate will be commensurate with experience/licensure
