    SAIC is seeking a Nuclear Incident and Accident Response Instructor for the Defense Nuclear Weapons School (DNWS) on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM. The Nuclear Response Instructor is responsible for instructing Nuclear Response courses in a variety of delivery methods, as well as reviewing, developing, and building course content for in-residence and e-Learning (Distance Learning (DL)) training courses.

    Primary Duties Include:

  • Instructs Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) response, nuclear weapons incident/accident response, and Nuclear Accident Response Procedures (NARP) related topics in a variety of methods of delivery including in-residence, Mobile Training Team (MTT), field training, and virtual platforms.
  • Conducts field training activities and practical exercise in radiological training sites.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) consequence prediction and incident response.
  • Develops in-residence and e-Learning (Virtual, Computer Based Training (CBT) courses in support of the DNWS' program to provide current and future U.S. Government (USG) workforce members with qualification in matters related to nuclear weapons with special emphasis on policy and managerial issues.
  • Revises and updates curricula and programs for accuracy, completeness, currency, and compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Evaluates curricula to identify gaps, determine requirements, and develop new courses.
  • Assesses commercial off-the-shelf technology and its application to instruction and/or courses of study.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive, responsive knowledge base of Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) and CBRN information.
  • Operates various computer models for CBRN consequence prediction and assessment related to accidents and incidents.
  • Employs various scenarios in order to illustrate and apply critical decision points including generic installation and managerial responses to CBRN events.
  • Facilitates, conducts, and executes inter-agency coordination including meetings, scheduling, planning, curriculum review, and course execution.
  • Transports students and/or moves equipment in preparation for training courses. Must possess a valid state driver's license and be trained on the vehicle (non-passenger vehicles) prior to use. Vehicles may include passenger vans (up to 15 passenger), sedans, and SUV's.
  • Physical demands include bending, sitting, standing, and driving for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry, and move cases and equipment such as training aids, Protector Cases/Road Cases, and rescue dummies.
  • Must be able to traverse uneven/rough terrain and work in inclement conditions such as extreme weather and night-time operations.
  • Must be comfortable working in a radiological environment and wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as boots, gloves, and Tyvek suits.
  • Travel as required.

  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

  • TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 9+ Years with Bachelors, 7+ Years with Masters, 4+ Years with PhD
  • Must currently hold a Secret Clearance
  • Extensive knowledge, experience, and understanding of nuclear weapons incident response and accident exercises such as Nuclear Weapon Accident/Exercise (NUWAIX).
  • Experience in nuclear weapons security, emergency management, CBRN planning, and consequence management planning.
  • Possess a robust instructional knowledge base to educate managerial level and multi-Service personnel.
  • Ability to manage and conduct training events and courses, as well as advise other instructors on nuclear weapons instructional matters.
  • Ability to conduct research in relevant areas and give subject matter expertise advice to instructor cadre.
  • Experience with MS Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required; experience in SharePoint a plus.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communications skills and ability to brief senior leaders (i.e., flag and general officers or members of the senior executive service).
  • Knowledge of presentation best practices with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to audiences of varying backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and outside agencies.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous instructional experience including familiarity with technology-based training.
  • Demonstrated skill in the fundamentals of instructional design, curriculum development, exercise development and facilitation including Practical Applications, Field Training Exercises, and Table Top Exercises.
  • Experience in training management, including multiple projects in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in problem-solving.
  • SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.

    Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters. Customer site vaccination requirements must be followed when work is performed at a customer site.
