We are looking to add a skilled Movement Disorder Specialist Neurologist to join our Richmond VA Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. We are seeking a highly motivated Board Eligible/Board Certified Neurologist with additional fellowship training in movement disorders, with a full and unrestricted medical license from any state or territory, who shares our commitment to providing excellent care to our US Veterans.
Richmond VAMC houses one of only six Parkinson's Disease Research, Education and Clinical Centers of Excellence in the VA system nationwide. The mission of the PADRECC is to support quality of life by providing comprehensive medical and surgical care to Veteran patients with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, advancing investigation into the cause and cure for Parkinson's disease, and enhancing understanding of the disorder through education, outreach and research. Our PADRECC team is comprised of movement disorder neurologists, a rehabilitation physiatrist, nurse practitioner, functional neurosurgeon, nursing staff, rehabilitation therapies including speech pathology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, vision rehab, music therapy, assistive technology, palliative care, social work and chaplain services.
The Richmond VA Medical Center, located in Richmond, Virginia, is a level 1a 349-bed facility offering primary, secondary, and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, intensive care, intermediate care, precision oncology, acute and sustaining spinal cord injury, polytrauma care, skilled nursing home care, and palliative care. The medical center has four community-based outpatient clinics located in Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Emporia and Spotsylvania County, Virginia, and a strong and mutually beneficial affiliation with the Medical College of Virginia. Residency programs exist in virtually all general and specialty areas of medicine, rehabilitation, surgery, psychiatry, and dentistry.
Major Duties / Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the Neurologist include, but are not limited to the following:
Provides a full range of movement disorder neurology services including assessment and using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care in outpatient and inpatient neurology care settings. The physician should also be comfortable and proficient in general neurology patient care for resident clinic and inpatient consultation services.
Teaching is an integral part of the work of a VA staff Neurologist. Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows is required.
Shares/rotates after hour and weekend home call responsibilities with other neurology physicians in the service.
Collaborates with midlevel providers and physician colleagues with clear communication and documentation.
Work will be a combination of on-site and remote telework as the needs of the service/division dictate based on space. Physicians are expected to be proficient in evaluation and management of patients both through in person and virtual telehealth visits.
