Pay Range Information

Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Manage an academic research lab, facilitate and conduct independent research in comparative biomechanics and bio-inspired design. Conducting research will be an integral part of the position. The position will assist and supervise undergraduate and graduate students with their projects and will pursue their own research project. The research will involve methods such as working with CT scans, creating models, 3D printing, and mechanical testing. Publishing results in scientific journals and presenting results at national and international conferences. Working alongside principal investigator to mentor undergraduate and graduate student researchers. Projects will be related to ongoing research and to expand beyond those ideas will be the primary goal.

Responsibilities

Conduct independent research related to supervisor's principal research. Duties include but are not limited to:

Carry out experiments related to the research.
Implement and follow lab safety protocols.
Lab based experimental design and collecting data.

Collaborate with and mentor undergraduate researchers

Train and advise undergraduate research students.
Work with and oversee undergraduate students and assist in delegating tasks.

Support Principal Investigator with lab management. Duties include but are not limited to:

Maintain records and assist with routine maintenance.
Ensure the laboratory is well equipped with all necessary tools and software to conduct research (and report to the PI when ordering is needed)
Understand and practice data management and lab safety protocols.
Other administrative tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

A doctoral or masters degree in a related field or combination of experience and masters degree.
Experience in working with CT scans
Strong analytical and organizational skills
Willingness to acquire new skills

Desired Qualifications

Programing experience in R
Mentoring Undergraduate researchers
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
