    Description

    The Outreach Specialist position is responsible for the "public face" of LARS. Outreach and tours are the primary ways the public learns about the science and research LARS conducts. The successful applicant must be outgoing, mature and able to work well within the context of an operating research farm that is focused on science. This includes coordinating and communicating well with animal husbandry and veterinary staff. The applicant must understand the difference between a research facility and a zoological park. We are especially interested in applicants with creative ideas for outreach and an organized approach toward getting required work completed. They should also be highly motivated and able to work independently or with minimal supervision once trained.

    In order to thrive in this position, the successful candidate will need to be organized, trustworthy and a good communicator. They should have a background in outreach and experience with retail ventures. They will be performing tours, thus, must be outgoing and able to communicate science effectively and enjoy performing these activities. They will also need to be comfortable working with animals and animal products (primarily qiviut).

    Minimum Qualifications:

    1 year of experience with outreach program development and implementation in an academic setting or in a naturalist role – this may include but is not limited to School Teacher, Park Naturalist, Docent/Tour Guide in a Zoological Park or Conservation Center.

    Position Details:

    This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule , Grade 77, based on education and experience.
