Our client, located in the southwest suburbs of Chicago, is looking for an Operations Manager to help develop and execute GM's vision and strategy for this $70 million metals manufacturing business. The Manager is tasked with managing all operations for the manufacturing facility, reporting directly to the GM. This leadership position is responsible for setting the direction and achieving results through the entire operations team including turnaround. This position must partner with other functional areas, customers, and suppliers to align operational activities with established business objectives and product/customer requirements in alignment with the company's culture, core values, LEAN, and a safety-first approach.

Responsibilities:

Assist in developing strategic plans for operational and turnaround activity within a robust metal-cutting environment.
Develop, implement, and manage both short-term operational plans and long-term strategic plans.
Drive employee engagement, training, and development to maximize safety, quality, and productivity.
Provide direct oversight for the operations management team including production, manufacturing engineering, maintenance, and quality along with a strong partnership with supply chain, product development, finance, and human resources.
Financial - Review financial statements and data. Utilize financial data to improve profitability. Prepare and control operational budgets. Control inventory and plan effective strategies for the financial well-being of the company.
Develop key plant metrics and regularly review to ensure corporate commitments are achieved including the areas of Safety, Housekeeping, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, Fixed capital efficiency (OEE), and Lean/MRO improvement projects.
Establish and manage a manufacturing environment consistent with the business philosophies of Lean Manufacturing with Kanban implementation experience.
Establish Standard Operating Procedures that tie to KPIs by product line.
Cross-train workforce to allow for flexing to meet customer requirements.
Lean out the workforce to proper levels in support of the business.
Train Supervisors to align with job requirements.
Work with Engineering to build out future state production upgrades.
Develop and promote a management style and culture that encourages teamwork, cooperation, participative management techniques, safety and sound employee relations.

Requirements:

B.S. degree in manufacturing management, engineering, or other related field of study.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing/metal-cutting environment, with at least 5 of those years supervising both hourly and salaried employees.
Must have strong Turnaround Management Experience.
Provide direction, leadership, and turnaround experience to drive growth and continuous improvement.
Experience successfully working with other business functions including Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and Sales/Marketing.
Proven track record of applying Lean manufacturing principles to drive plant efficiencies.
Ability to identify and manage projects from concept to implementation and successfully drive project results within a metal-cutting environment.
