    Initial assignment is for one year from initial hire date, renewable for additional one-year periods based on performance and funding acquisition.

    Purpose

    This ecology research technician position will provide support to field, lab, and greenhouse research projects undertaken by the Wolf lab at the University of Texas. The selected candidate will work closely with PI Wolf as well as postdocs and graduate students in the lab to implement and maintain large-scale ecological field experiments at the UT-Austin field stations. In addition, the selected candidate will coordinate and supervise undergraduate assistants and other team members, develop research questions and methods of data collection, present results of research at field-specific conferences, and act as a liaison with other labs in the department. The selected candidate will also complete computer data entry and analysis, as well as develop standard operating procedures for laboratory analyses.

    Responsibilities

    • Support and maintain ecological field experiments at UT field stations. Driving a UT or personally owned vehicle is essential.
    • Develop and conduct research project, including data collection and analysis
    • Provide research support to Principal Investigator, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows int he lab, field and/or greenhouse
    • Coordinate and supervise undergraduate assistants

    Required Qualifications

    • BS or equivalent in ecology
    • Previous experience designing and conducting biological and ecological research in laboratory and field settings in central Texas
    • Previous experience presenting research results at ecological conferences
    • Previous experience coordinating and leading teams of 5-10 assistants
    • Ability to identify central Texas plant species at all life stages, including seedlings
    • Ability to identify central Texas insect species
    • Attention to detail; excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent scientific communication skills
    • Must be able to work efficiently both individually and as part of a team
    • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with the specific flora at Brackenridge Field Lab and the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center
    • Familiarity and comfort with power tool use

    Driving Required

    This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

    Salary Range

    $45,000 + depending on qualifications
