    Summary:

    We are seeking candidates with an understanding of and appreciation for undergraduate/graduate education, research and outreach with a strong commitment to the Land Grant mission.


    Classification Summary:


    The department head is responsible for implementing the department's vision, and all aspects of administration including fiscal and personnel management, developing and maintaining departmental facilities, faculty and program evaluations, and administering departmental programs.


    Classification Standard Duties:


    Duties may include but are not limited to: faculty recruitment and development, faculty evaluation, program development, program review, curriculum development, student recruitment and advisement, departmental fiscal management.

    Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

    Candidates must have an earned Ph.
    D.

    in Agricultural Education or Agricultural Extension or Agricultural Communications or closely related field, and have compiled a demonstrable record of academic achievement and professional experience consistent with the university rank of 'Full Professor' or Associate Professor eligible for promotion to Professor within the department.


    Candidates must provide evidence of leadership, team¬ building skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, administrative experience, and a strong record of academic teaching/advising proficiency.

    In addition, candidates must demonstrate their experience and success in actively recruiting and mentoring students and faculty from diverse cultures, and in promoting an academic program to the community, university, industry, granting agencies, government, and other stakeholders.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Individuals need to document their experience and training in research for their discipline. Ability to promote the department to the college, university, industry, granting agencies, government, and clientele is essential. Candidates must understand and have a strong commitment to the Land-Grant mission. The successful candidate will have a vision, energy, and enthusiasm to provide dynamic leadership for the department.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities


    The department head serves as an advocate for the department and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.

    The department head is responsible for implementing the department's vision, and all aspects of administration including fiscal and personnel management, developing and maintaining departmental facilities, faculty and program evaluations, and administering departmental programs, which includes fundraising and outreach to the community and industry.

    The successful candidate will exercise effective leadership while fostering positive working relationships among faculty, staff, and students within and between academic and extension departments and our clientele.

    The Department Head coordinates and evaluates activities related to undergraduate and graduate instruction, research, and outreach. The department head will teach at least one upper division or graduate course annually. A commitment to strengthening support for teaching, research, and service is essential.


    Foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center of Excellence in Food and Sustainable Agriculture (CESFAS).


    The Department of Agricultural and Extension Education strives to provide students with content knowledge, technical skills, and applied experiences that will establish our students as successful teachers, agents, communicators, and industry professionals.

    The department offers B.S. majors in Agricultural and Extension Education and Agricultural Communications.

    The department has a distance and a face-to-face Masters in Agricultural and Extension Education with emphasis areas in Agricultural Education Teaching, Extension and Communications, and joint Masters with the Department of Journalism in Strategic Agricultural Communications offered through the NMSU Global Campus.

    The Department has a long and proud history of Teaching, Research, and Extension since its founding in 1925.

    The Department's faculty, staff, specialists and students are the core and foundation of our learning, discovery and scholarly community with its aim to address the different educational, environmental, social and technological issues that challenge the agricultural sectors, natural resource managers, and rural communities.
