    A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience.

    This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs.

    An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education.

    Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

    Performs high quality diagnostic ultrasound exams and special diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the direction of the physician and/or radiologist involving the use of high frequency sound waves to investigate the internal aspects of the human body.

    Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

    Associate's degree or two year certificate program in Ultrasound.
    American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) within one year of data of hire.

    Two (2) years of work experience as an ultrasound technologist.

    Maintains current knowledge in areas of performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures.
    Performs multiple ultrasound examinations performing all studies according to department protocols. Produce high quality, complete ultrasound exams.
    Documents all measurements and other key clinical information on worksheets and/or PACS.
    Coordinates efforts with colleagues and other modality staff as needed.

    Obtains and documents patient history related to procedures; provides clear and accurate instructions and explanation of exams and procedures to patients to improve patient satisfaction and the quality of the US exam being performed.

    Applies knowledge and safety principles to ensure patient and staff safety. Verifies dual patient identifier and correct exam prior to performing any ultrasound exam.

    competently and accuratly use of all aspects of the RIS, Trace and PACS systems and required IT applications: proactively identifies errors that need correction and make the corrections and/or notifies the appropriate personnel.

    Abides by Hand-off policy to avoid imaging errors and collaborates with other modalities and ancillary staff.
    Oversees students in clinical procedures as requested to optimize patient care and timeliness of service.

    Consults with radiologists providing technical interpretation of diagnostic ultrasound images and informs the radiologists of abnormalities or critical results as identified to assess exam completeness.

    Perform on-call duties and/or work variable shifts as assigned to meet departmental needs.

    Pushing, pulling & moving stretchers and ultrasound machines.
    Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate transducers, ultrasound equipment & computer keyboard.
    Hearing and visual sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment and hospital alarms.
    Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients' families, and other personnel throughout the hospital.

    An in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to evaluate laboratory data, past medical history and pertinent symptoms to tailor the ultrasound examination to each patient individually in a safe, accurate and timely manner.

    Proficient in OB/GYN, small parts, venous, carotid, abdominal ultrasounds & procedures requiring ultrasound guidance (i.e. biopsies, amniocentesis, aspirations, paracentesis, thoracentesis, hysterosonograms, etc.)
    Ability to work independently to perform exams and will seek out assistance from others and supervisor as necessary.
    Cooperation with co-workers and management to ensure an atmosphere that is conductive to high quality patient's care.
