    Amazon background
    Description

Amazon is hiring thousands of workers every week across 60+ countries, a testament to the scale and reach of its global operations.

The Work Authorization team plays a crucial role in ensuring that all employees hired (into all lines of business, globally) are legally authorized to work and remain authorized to work throughout their employment, adhering to regulatory requirements worldwide.

We are developing a system to streamline the work authorization determination process by eliminating manual interventions (where legally permissible) without compromising compliance, leveraging technology to optimize this complex process.

This solution will involve building dedicated web applications to satisfy legal requirements specific to each country or region, taking into account local regulations and nuances.

As a Software Developer, you will have direct influence on this greenfield project by designing and implementing highly scalable solutions and applying technology to optimize business problems, driving innovation and efficiency.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will take the lead in identifying and solving ambiguous HR, operational, and business problems, leveraging your technical expertise to deliver results.

You will own and heavily influence the architecture and design, and will write a significant portion of the 'critical-path' code, shaping the technical direction of the project.

You will influence the team's technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to priorities and approach, providing guidance and leadership.

You contribute to all aspects of an agile software development lifecycle including design, architecture, development, documentation, testing and operations, empowering the team with your expertise.

You are empowered to own all aspects of solutions end-to-end through full stack software development, working closely with engineers, product managers, stakeholders, and managers.

A successful SDE III will have a broad array of experiences, exceptional design skills, strong technical judgement, an excellent ability to solve problems, good communication skills and a team leader, driving success and growth.

The software you own and build will impact millions of Amazonians globally, requiring a breadth of front-end and back-end technical development knowledge, and daily work will involve interacting with cross-functional teams.

We are seeking experienced senior engineers with strong ownership, who can innovate and enable Amazon's workforce onboarding speed and success, passionate about creating new features and services from scratch, and comfortable with the pace of shipping software in cycles measured in weeks.

    A day in the life

You will be designing and implementing new features, enhancements, and problem solving complex issues that often require cross-team collaboration, thinking big, and a holistic business process understanding.

Our team is building products that we also use, so we're both customers and developers, advocating for and inventing solutions to improve the customer experience.

We move fast, focusing on prioritization and fast decision making to deliver for the customer without sacrificing good engineering practices, driven by a culture of agility and innovation.

    Basic Qualifications

    • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
    • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
    • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
    • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
    • Experience leading and influencing your team or organization.

Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or other legally protected status.
