    Description


    The Legal Assistant/Case Manager is responsible for conducting preliminary reviews of ethical complaints against attorneys licensed to practice in the District of Columbia.

    The Legal Assistant/Case Manager reports to the Sr. Assistant Disciplinary Counsel-Intake.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


    • Conducts preliminary investigations of ethical complaints, including a thorough review of supporting documentation to determine the appropriate case disposition.
    • Gathers and reviews relevant documents from financial institutions, courts, and other jurisdictions.
    • Prepares subpoenas duces tecum for financial and other documents.
    • Drafts decision letters.
    • Drafts memoranda recommending docketing cases for further investigation.
    • Conducts internet and legal research using online platforms.
    • Communicates with complainants by telephone and email.
    • Makes timely recommendations on complaint resolutions.
    • Participates in legal staff meeting discussions and moot courts.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


    • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, have received at least one COVID-19 booster shot, and, if hired, present proof of vaccination by the start date.
    • Completion of a four-year degree and either a J.D. degree from an accredited law program or a paralegal certificate.
    • Significant prior paralegal or law clerk work experience.
    • Legal intake experience or knowledge of the DC Rules of Professional Conduct.
    • Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze large volumes of data.
    • Strong research and analytical skills.
    • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
    • Work well in a team environment and interact professionally with staff, the courts, and the public.
    • Successfully work in a fast-paced environment and consistently manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
    • Must work well under pressure, possess excellent time-management and organization abilities, and successfully manage a heavy caseload.
    • Ability to organize and review a variety of documents and materials under tight deadlines.
    • Must be adaptable, creative, detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and self-motivated.
    • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and online legal research.
    • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

    This position is currently a hybrid position, with days worked in the office and days worked remotely. The hybrid status of this position may change at any time subject to the Bar's discretion.
