    Description
    Purpose Statement

    The Director of Operations, is responsible for assisting the Assistant Superintendent of Operations in the overall management and administration of the school district operations.

    The Director of Operations provides leadership and customer service in assuring the District's buildings and maintenance systems effectively and efficiently operate consistent with district-established standards toward the goal of providingall students and staff with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, and welcoming.

    Primary functions include management of construction and renovation projects and leading the custodial and maintenance teams.

    The Director of Operations collaborates with building and district leaders as well as community members and other stakeholders to achieve the District's strategic goals.

    Minimum Qualifications :
    Five (5+) plus years of experience in engineering, construction, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, project management, property management, or school administration.
    Experience in the industrial or school environment in the area of planning or maintaining physical facilities, ground maintenance; preferred.
    Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to school district operations.
    Knowledge of building trades, maintenance and repair.
    Knowledge of the principles and methods applied in educational building construction and school site planning and development projects.

    Knowledge of the use of construction materials and systems and their use and placement in school building construction and site development.

    Knowledge and experience in procedures and practices related to real estate acquisition and development in the public sector.

    Knowledge of the stages in construction and the application and use of building codes as related to educational building construction.

    Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

    Education Qualifications :
    Bachelors' Degree in public administration, business administration, construction, education, or related field.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Assumes responsibility for the comprehensive planning and scheduling of building and grounds maintenance and repair in the District.
    Works cooperatively with administrators in providing efficient operational services.

    Supervises and approves payment to the outside contractors performing work for the district that is aligned with the operations and maintenance systems.

    Maintain, develop, and use sound business practices for school operations.
    Develops, recommends, and administers current policies and guidelines related to areas of responsibility.
    Makes recommendations on personnel decisions, including hiring, evaluation, promotion, transfer, suspension, or discharge; makes final recommendation to the Director of Human Resources and/or

    Human Resources Manager:
    Recruitment and Hiring.
    As needed, is available to serve on the district's contract negotiations team for classified staff.
    As directed, attend meetings of the Board of Education.
    Schedule and conduct meetings within areas of responsibility to ensure strong communication and support with stakeholders and staff.

    Make determinations and recommendations for rent or buy decisions and optimum timing of replacement for vehicles and equipment for the District.

    Develops and monitors annual budgets and expenditures in areas of responsibility.
    Prepares reports required by federal, state, or local agencies.
    Assists the Assistant Superintendent with closing of schools during inclement weather.
    Plan, implement, and document a continuing program of staff development, as well as required discretionary training.

    Maintain personal professional growth through continuing education, organization membership, and/or seminars, and ensure that department personnel have the needed training and professional development.

    Performs other duties as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.
    Other Functions
    Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as assigned.

    Uphold and adhere to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program.
    Support the goals and objectives of the school district and follow all district policies.
    Demonstrate the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption todistrict operations.
    Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.
    Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct appropriate personnel to resolve them.

    Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

    The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands:significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing, and walking.

    Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity.
    Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress. Successful candidates are subject to post-offer pre-employment physicals.
    Responsibility
    Responsibilities include working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions.

    Is responsible for the overall direction, management, coordination, and evaluation of Transportation, Custodial and Maintenance, Building and Grounds, and Operations support staff.
