Good afternoon. My name is Kara Cossio, and I am a Legal Practice Director with RemX by Employbridge.

I am partnering with my law firm client located in Washington, DC with their search for a Biotechnology Patent Prosecution Associate. The ideal candidate will have three to five years of experience in patent prosecution. This position will provide you with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of patent prosecution matters in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biological, and biotechnology fields with quality domestic and foreign clients.

• Provide legal advice to clients regarding patentability, patent strategy, and patent portfolio management in the field of biotechnology.
• Prepare and draft patent applications for biotechnological inventions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legal requirements.
• Manage the prosecution of patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and other relevant patent offices worldwide. This includes responding to office actions, conducting interviews with patent examiners, and addressing any objections or rejections raised during examination.
• Conduct thorough prior art searches to assess the novelty and non-obviousness of biotechnological inventions and provide opinions on patentability.
• Conduct intellectual property due diligence reviews in support of corporate transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, and licensing agreements, involving biotechnology patents.
• Assist clients in developing and managing their patent portfolios, including assessing the competitive landscape, identifying strategic opportunities, and making recommendations for patent filing and maintenance.
• Work closely with inventors, scientists, technical experts, and other legal professionals to understand and evaluate inventions, develop patent strategies, and effectively communicate complex technical and legal concepts.

The salary range is between 265K-350K based on years of experience.
