    Job Title: ENL Teacher

    Organization: Exploration Elementary Charter School for Science and Technology

    Reports To: Students Support Services Coordinator

    Duration: 11 Month Position

    Position Summary

    The ENL Teacher provides English instruction to classes or individual students and will develop a curriculum that takes an overall approach to English study or focuses on a specific aspect of language use, such as life skills, and literacy. The ENL teacher will provide basic English instruction and build skills, such as listening, reading, writing and speaking. ENL teachers need to be knowledgeable of their students' culture and recognize differences that may affect a student's ability to acclimate to an English-speaking environment.

    Essential Functions

    The essential functions for our ENL Teacher are as follows:

    • Provide ELL push in and/or pull out instruction to students at the elementary school level.
    • Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for elementary students, along with the ongoing monitoring of student progress.
    • Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the school's instructional program so as to ensure that students meet and exceed learning targets.
    • Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies.
    • Assist in developing language acquisition support plans (ELL plans) for all ELL/TESOL students and work with classroom teachers to implement those plans.
    • Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area.
    • Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition.
    • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress.
    • Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility
    • and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
    • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students.
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment.
    • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students.
    • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
    • Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as needed.
    Requirements:

    Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in TESOL, ELL/ENL or related degree and NYS Teaching Certification.
    • Fingerprint clearance from NYS Department of Education.
    • Prior experience working with elementary school students in urban settings.
    • The ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment to support instruction.
    • The ability to facilitate group discussion.

    Additional Details:

    The hiring process for this position will require you to perform a fingerprinted background check through the New York State TEACH System.
