    Position Description:

    The Teacher Development Team (under the umbrella of Talent Development & Management within the Human Resources Department) aims to ensure all students are served by effective, diverse, equitable and resilient educators. To this end, the Teacher DevelopmentTeam supports the work of teacher development and Q Comp, including:

    1. Observations, coaching, and the Standards of Effective Instruction (SOEI)
    2. Principles of adult learning and professional development facilitation
    3. Teacher leadership

    Function:

    The DPF for Educator Effectiveness will serve in a program management capacity and will collaborate with the Manager of Teacher Development and Q Comp, other members of the Teacher Development Team, PAR Mentors, Instructional Specialists, and other district departments to support programming related to educator effectiveness (licensed and non-licensed), including:

  • Lead the implementation of the MPS teacher evaluation process:
  • Coordinate and facilitate SOEI observer initial certification training and annual renewal for returning observers
  • Collaborate with Professional Development Coordinators and the Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) team to support principals and secondary observers to use online teacher and related service observation forms in SuccessFactors
  • Meet with Associate Superintendents quarterly to provide updates and get feedback on teacher observations
  • Ensure SOEI alignment in professional development provided by the Teacher Development team, including New Teacher Orientation (NTO) and other training provided to new/non-tenured licensed educators
  • Collaborate with other district departments to ensure their professional development for licensed staff is aligned to the SOEI
  • Serve as part of the labor management team that updates and revises the SOEI and the MPS teacher observation model
  • Collaborate with ESPs and district staff to ensure district professional development for ESPs is aligned to the Standards of Effective Educational Supports (SOEES)
  • RESPONSIBLE TO: The Manager of Teacher Development & Q Comp

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license
  • Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience (within or outside of MPS) as demonstrated by SOEI or other evaluation measures
  • Highly preferred: demonstrated success in working with students and staff of racially diverse backgrounds; a distinguished track record in hard-to-staff schools
  • Preferred: Tenured in Minneapolis Public Schools
  • Experience related to mentoring, coaching, and/or some aspect of teacher leadership such as secondary observer, cooperating teacher, master teacher or other professional development position(s)
  • Experience with teacher support and development using the Standards of Effective Instruction (SOEI)
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing standards-based instruction for students, applying differentiated learning strategies and improving student achievement in the classroom
  • Experience in developing and/or facilitating adult professional learning
  • Certified or willing to obtain certification in the Standard of Effective Instruction (SOEI)
  • Demonstrated dedication to personal professional growth, including: regular establishment and assessment of personal professional goals; engagement in ongoing process of reflection; and inquiry to deepen practice
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional collaboration with colleagues
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet regularly (minimum of bi-weekly) with the Manager of Teacher Development & Q Comp
  • Meet regularly (minimum of weekly) with the Teacher Development Team, PAR Mentor Leads and ABAR Mentor Leads
  • Collaborate with other district departments and teams to support alignment between Teacher Development and the SOEI and/or SOEES with the site-based experience for licensed and non-licensed educators, including:
  • School Improvement and School Improvement Plans (SIP)
  • District priorities: equity, social emotional learning (SEL), literacy, and multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS)
  • Teaching & Learning, Special Education, Multilingual, and other areas related to content
  • Other duties as assigned to support educator effectiveness
  • SALARY:

    Teacher Salary Schedule (43 weeks) with opportunities for extended and/or flex time to support summer planning and summer professional development.
