    The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition is seeking a Bioinformatician (Research Data Analyst II) to join a translational research team within the Stanford Medicine Children's Health Center for IBD and Celiac Disease .     The Bioinformatician (Research Data Analyst II) will play a pivotal role in advancing the research initiatives of the Stanford Medicine Children's Health Center for Pediatric IBD and Celiac Disease. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of clinical care and cutting-edge research, contributing to the center's mission of integrating leading edge care and research to elevate the lives of all children with IBD and celiac disease. The Bioinformatician will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and researchers to analyze high order genomics, transcriptomics, microbial, single-cell and clinical data. They will utilize advanced computational techniques to extract meaningful insights from these large-scale datasets. Additionally, the Bioinformatician will play an integral part in the design and execution of research projects. They will provide expertise in data analysis and interpretation, working closely with principal investigators to address research questions and hypotheses. This role also involves the development and implementation of innovative bioinformatics methodologies and tools tailored to the specific needs of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and celiac disease research. This includes the integration of multi-omics data to identify potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

    Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of research data is a critical responsibility. The Bioinformatician will actively participate in data collection, curation, and quality control procedures, maintaining and organizing data repositories for ongoing and future research endeavors. Furthermore, the Bioinformatician will foster a synergistic environment for research and knowledge exchange by collaborating with researchers, clinicians, and other bioinformaticians. They will also be responsible for presenting findings and insights to team members and stakeholders, generating sophisticated publication-quality figures for manuscripts and grants, and contributing to the drafting of manuscripts and grants. Finally, the Bioinformatician will continually update their knowledge and skills, remaining current with the latest advancements in the field. This ongoing professional development will enable them to drive innovation within the research program and contribute to its success.

    Duties include:

    · Compile clinical, operational, survey, and research data from internal data sources, and combine with publicly available datasets and registries where appropriate.

    · Determine additional data collection needs and ensure compliance with all reporting requirements.

    · Employ new and existing tools to independently interpret, analyze and visualize multi-dimensional longitudinal data from a variety of sources.Oversee and monitor regulatory compliance for utilization of the data.

    · Independently develop hypotheses based on the data analysis and define subsequent analyses and data collection to be performed.

    · Use system reports and analyses to identify potentially problematic data, make corrections, and eliminate root cause for data problems or justify solutions to be implemented by others.

    · Create complex charts and databases, perform statistical analyses, and develop graphs and tables for publication, presentation, and grant applications with minimal supervision.

    · Train laboratory staff and students to perform basic data analysis using standard packages.

    · Provide documentation based on audit and reporting criteria to investigators and research staff.

    Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $84,000 to $126,000.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related field with at least two years of relevant experience
    • MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or a related
    • Experience with analysis of high order molecular and single-cell data sets and familiarity with the associated tools and databases relevant to such analysis.
    • Proficiency in programming and query languages, such as Python, R, and SQL.
    • Excellent communication to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of clinicians and researchers.
    • Experience preparing complex figures and tables, performing advanced statistical analyses, and writing for publications and presentations.
    • Experience with high-performance, cloud-based computing platforms such as Google Cloud Platform.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Passion for improving the lives of children with IBD and celiac disease through cutting-edge research.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

    Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as bioinformatics, statistics or engineering.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

    · Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.

    · Excellent writing and analytical skills.

    · Ability to prioritize workload.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

    · Sitting in place at computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding/dexterity.

    · Occasionally use a telephone.

    · Rarely writing by hand.
