    Job Summary

    This position exists to execute data management and quality assurance activities for water and fish assessment processes. The incumbent is tasked with ensuring the integrity and quality of data utilized in these assessments at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). Responsibilities include overseeing the accuracy, consistency, and validation of data; addressing data retrieval issues; and improving data integration and access. The role is pivotal in supporting the agency's environmental protection and public health initiatives, managing data from various sources and fostering collaborative relationships with an array of internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, this position plays a vital role in enhancing the agency's emergency response capabilities and ensuring the continuity of services.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in an Environmental Science, Engineering, Computer Science, GIS, or other Natural Science; Statistics, Environmental Health, Toxicology or other related degree.

    Three (3) years of demonstrated experience conducting research and data analysis and providing or communicating data to both technical and general audiences.

    Strong planning and organizational skills to meet priorities, goals and objectives, monitor work, and follow-up on implementation for both independent and team-oriented work.

    Ability to communicate complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a wide range of audiences.

    Ability to evaluate and interpret scientific data, reports and literature, particularly to conduct thorough research and review of the validity of data used in model and tool development.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Understanding of or experience in environmental and regulatory programs, such as remediation, air, water or solid waste permitting, and/or pollution prevention programs.

    Understanding of or experience in water assessment and regulatory work.

    Experience performing analyses and data visualization using a wide variety of data science (data collection, analysis, processing, evaluation, visualization, etc.) software such as Tableau, SQL, Excel, Python, R or other statistical analysis software.

    Ability to produce clear, concise analysis and reports in support of program management and decision making.

    Human relation and communication skills sufficient to collaborate, work effectively, and create understanding within a wide range of clientele, partners, and interested parties.

    Physical Requirements

    Requires occasionally moving such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others and/or moving light objects frequently. A job in this category may require maintaining a stationary position to a significant degree or may involve a certain amount of moving necessary in carrying out job duties.

    Additional Requirements

    Position duties may require travel, but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver's license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
