    JOB TITLE:ELEMENTARY HEALTH TECH (begins with school year) - WE

    REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or Equivalent, Certified in CPR and First Aid

    REPORTS TO: School Nurse and Building Principal

    RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: School Nurse and Building Principal

    GENERAL DESCPRIPTION: The job of the school Health Tech is to provide support in addressing the health needs of students; assist in implementing the school health program; and providing appropriate care and/or referral for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students under the supervision of the school nurse.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School year only 30 hours per week

    EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the district's Personnel Evaluation Policy

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Consistent and punctual "on site" attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
    • Administer first aid and medication to students according to district policy and procedures for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs
    • Communicates effectively with school nurse, staff and parents regarding health care needs and concerns for the purpose of referring students in need of further medical/dental treatment
    • Maintains health records for the purpose of providing information required by legal and professional standards
    • Maintains health room and work areas (i.e. supplies, inventory and cleanliness) for the purpose of providing adequate supplies and a sanitary and safe environment
    • Performs record keeping and clerical functions under strict confidentiality (i.e. scheduling, copying, faxing, etc.) for the purpose of supporting health services staff
    • Performs specialized treatments as delegated by the school nurse (i.e. diabetic and asthma procedures) for the purpose of providing for and monitoring students' medical needs and/or testing at school site
    • Supervises students referred for illness and/or injury for the purpose of monitoring their care and maintaining order in the health room
    • Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms that are suggestive of illnesses, severe injuries or communicable disease
    • Reports all medical concerns to the school nurse and/or building administrator
    • Other duties as assigned
