    Job Description Summary:

    What you need to know about the role As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will own one of our critical domains, leading one or two major initiatives related to your domain.

    You will be part of the architect group that defines the future of the Company's technical development.

    You will be a hands-on contributor that teaches by example and mentors other engineers and product owners on how to improve their development, using our systems, by driving best practices.

    AWS, EKS, Docker, GitHub Enterprise, Terraform, GitHub Actions, DataDog, Bash, Python, Go.

    Meet our team The Venmo Infrastructure and DevOps team is responsible for keeping all user-facing services, production and development systems running smoothly.

    We own Venmo's infrastructure end-to-end: operations, automation, security and compliance, release engineering, incident management, etc. We work on the mix of SRE, TechOps and DevOps projects.

    On DevOps side we own CICD infrastructure, smart and secure pipelines, self-serviced secret management systems, development environments, microservices scaffolding, testing frameworks and others.

    Own and develop your domain:
    Compute, Networking or Routing.

    Lead major initiatives end-to-end: internal teams rarely have dedicated project managers - you will wear this hat too.

    You will define the design, identify stakeholders, navigate risks, obstacles and changes, coordinate the work of your colleagues, implement, advertise and overall be the guarantor of the project delivery on time and on quality.

    Strive to help fellow engineers to develop and deliver their code faster and in a secure way.

    Your day-to-day

    In your day-to-day role, you will be part of our on-call rotation.

    Coach/mentor engineers on design principles and best practices.

    Recognize, validate and evangelize emerging technologies and architectures that align with business objectives.

    Lead by doing and meaningfully contributing to engineering teams' production operations improvements.


    Develop tools and automation to manage infrastructure and application configuration via code and improve the operations quality, reliability, and stability of our systems.

    What do you need to bring

    Bachelors and/or master's in computer science or related field of study.


    10+ years' experience in software development or a related field and 5+ years' experience operating distributed applications 24x7x365, as part of DevOps or SRE team.

    2+ years technical leadership experience.

    Extensive hands-on experience with designing, implementing and supporting infrastructure to support global-scale services.

    Deep hands-on experience with IaaS and PaaS solutions from AWS (or similar cloud provider).

    Hands-on programming and scripting (Python, Java, Bash, Go), containers & container orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes

    Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and explain technical issues to a non-technical audience.
