The division offers an exciting opportunity to work with a team of professionals, gain valuable work experience, and develop new skills.
Each year, the division audits the State's most significant financial activities and performs compliance testing for federal programs as part of the statewide single audit.
Special audits are also conducted for a wide variety of objectives designed to evaluate specific state operations.The staff auditor position is the agency's entry-level audit position. The position learns basic audit skills and performs entry-level tasks at the direction of supervisory auditors.
Minimum Annual Salary:
$75, $86,268
This position is exempt from the current executive branch hiring freeze.
Examples of Duties
Performs auditing procedures and techniques in accordance with audit standards established by the AICPA and government audit standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States.
Researches laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements to determine if programs and processes are being administered accordingly.
Follows audit procedures to accurately identify errors and summarize the results of findings.
Interviews State agency personnel regarding agency operations and documents the interviews.
Works with State agency personnel to obtain audit documentation.
Depending on experience, develops audit procedures.
Depending on experience, assists in writing audit reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
Knowledge of or willingness to obtain knowledge of AICPA and Government Auditing Standards.
Ability to evaluate business processes, identify risks, and identify controls that should be in place.
Ability to read, comprehend, and analyze information.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to research and interpret federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
Ability to interpret and implement new accounting and auditing pronouncements.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Ability to work in a team environment and foster a positive work atmosphere.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet frequent deadlines.
Ability up to lift 40 pounds.
Possess a valid driver's license.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a fully exempt job class under Alaska Statute
Positions in Division of Legislative Audit are required to be politically neutral.
Class range and title will depend on experience and qualifications.
Currently, we are not providing visa employer sponsorships.
An Applicant Who Is Either
qualified (or soon will be qualified) to sit and is committed to studying for and passing the CPA exam,
OR
has passed the CPA exam or parts of the exam.
AND
Has a minimum GPA of 3.25 from an accredited university or college in a field relevant to this position.

In addition to completing and submitting the Workplace Alaska application, a cover letter and transcripts are all required to be submitted as part of this application package.
Education and CPA Exam Eligibility
It's a requirement of this position that applicants meet (or will soon meet) the eligibility requirement in Alaska to take the CPA exam.
Please refer to the Alaska Board of Public Accountancy website to review the current statutes and regulations regarding CPA exam qualification criteria.
Special Instructions For Foreign EducationEducation completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements, if applicable.
If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S.
education programs; or an accredited U.S.state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university.
It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.Selection Procedure
Applicants are required to meet the minimum qualifications as outlined above. The division's strict selection criteria requires an application package to contain the required information before determining eligibility to interview.
