    POSITION DESCRIPTION


    Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services and/or assigned administrator, the part-time EOPS/CARE/NextUp Guided Pathways Counselor provides comprehensive counseling services to community college students from diverse backgrounds regarding degree and vocational education program planning, university transfer planning, education, career decision, goal clarification and personal life management, and other duties assigned.

    The part-time EOPS/CARE/NextUp Guided Pathways Counselor is a member of an integrated college team providing individual academic, career, and related support to an assigned group of college students as they progress through the program.

    The part-time EOPS/CARE/NextUp Guided Pathways Counselor will also administer comprehensive services supporting the assigned program or area, which provides a supportive, caring environment of educational and career services to students.

    Responsibilities include academic and career advising, ensuring students follow their approved course of study; reviewing grade reports and contacting students as needed for follow-up services; developing workshops on a wide range of topics and other activities ensuring student success within the program.

    The assignment also includes participation in the governance process through work in professional activities, committee work, and student activities. The assignment may involve day, evening, and weekend assignments.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

    The duties of the part-time EOPS/CARE/NextUp Guided Pathways Counselor may include, but not be limited to, the following:

    Deliver comprehensive counseling support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion.

    Conduct workshops and group counseling on topics of relevance and interest.

    Review student progress and tracks student use of academic support services.

    Regularly collaborate with faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.

    Maintain accurate notes and review grade reports for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals for opportunity programs.

    Support annual recruitment of students.

    Assist in organizing periodic special events and programs for students, faculty and staff.


    Counsel students in the appropriate academic and vocational guided pathways; provide academic advising, counseling, and participation in the program process.

    Develop student education plans and provide follow-up for students.

    Participate in the development of retention strategies to assist students in completing their goal.

    Provide career planning for undecided students.

    Conduct workshops for students, including but not limited to, probation/dismissal-status students.

    Provide virtual and/or group counseling.

    Teach human development classes, as needed.

    Provide input into the development of curriculum guide sheets and catalog materials with the college and four-year institutions.

    Foster relationships with the District high schools.

    Participate in division program review.


    Apply student development philosophy and theory to provide comprehensive counseling services to community college students from diverse backgrounds regarding degree and vocational education program planning, university transfer planning, education, career decision, goal clarification and personal life management.

    Participate in the assessment of the related service area outcomes (SAOs).

    Participate in the assessments of student learning outcomes (SLOs).


    Required Qualifications:


    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


    Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or and career development,OR

    The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above;OR

    Valid California Community College Instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990; AND


    Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities.

    In addition, EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall:

    Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR

    Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages AND


    Have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing students from diverse urban backgrounds

    Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, within the department and with faculty and other administrators

    Strong organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills

    Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of student activities

    Computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and aptitude to learn new systems as needed

    Experience using a case-management model of serving students including confidential record-keeping procedures

    Experience advising students in a post-secondary program

    Experience using electronic student education plans, course placements, and student information systems and internet for academic and career planning

    Experience collaborating with multiple service providers within the campus and the community.

    Experience working with non-traditional college students who face multiple outside barriers, such as poverty, parenthood, academic disadvantage, physical and/or emotional abuse, drug abuse and/or anxiety and depression

    Effective oral and written communication skills




    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    HOURLY RANGE:
    $ $72.27 (depending upon education and experience)


    Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District
