- Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements, in accordance with GAAP, for commercial real estate portfolio companies.
- Maintain all financial statement supporting schedules and reconcile to the general ledger. Create supporting schedules when necessary.
- Review and approve accounts payable and accounts receivable, to ensuring accurate coding entered by the property manager.
- Review and analyze general ledger activity for completeness. Prepare accruals and related journal entries to maintain the general ledger.
- Administer all commercial and retail lease processes (set up new tenants in the accounting software and ensure adherence to lease terms).
- Prepare straight-line rent entries.
- Review property manager operating expense accruals and post to the general ledger.
- Prepare real estate tax reconciliations.
- Estimate and reconcile Tenants operating expense recoveries via software (Yardi/MRI).
- Review and post tenant recurring charges.
- Create security deposit charges and complete accounting deposit refunds.
- Assist with preparation of annual operating budgets and forecasts.
- Review bank reconciliations performed by third parties and/or other members of the team.
- Assist management with special projects and other tasks as assigned.
- Must have a can-do self-motivated mindset, be highly productive, demonstrate initiative, and be able identify and suggest process improvements for current policies and procedures.
- Potential candidates should have a Bachelors degree in accounting or at least 3 years accounting experience with a minimum 1 year of full cycle accounting, including the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, for commercial real estate and development properties.
- Must be proficient with MS Office products, Yardi Voyager (especially commercial module) and MRI (especially commercial module).
- In addition, the candidate should have excellent organizational, communication (both oral and written), and time management skills.
- Must have the ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships while working in a team environment and be able to work independently when needed.

Macdonald & Company are pleased to be retained by a Houston based, privately held real estate company to find and appoint a Property Accountant with 2-3 years experience in commercial property management to join their lean, in-house finance team.
The business focus is on the acquisition, development, and management of office, industrial, land, single family, and multifamily assets. Reporting to the Controller you will be responsible for accounting functions related to the companys commercial real estate properties and corporate entities.
Key requirements are degree educated with a Bachelors in accounting; a minimum 3 years of full cycle accounting; Yardi software experience. The office is based in North-East Houston and the team are usually expected in office x5 days a week.
