    Position Information

    The Department of Natural Sciences (DNS) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of biology position.

    We seek candidates whose work bridges expertise within the department and who show demonstrated experience in cell and molecular biology to support our pre-medical and allied health undergraduate pathways and contribute to the graduate toxicology program. Candidates will train graduate students in the department's toxicology program, develop an independent research program, and contribute to departmental and program self-governance.

    Candidates should have the capacity to teach to a diverse student population and prepare students broadly for futures in graduate and professional schools. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate introductory biology courses, specialty courses in neuroscience, development, or immunology, and graduate level courses supporting the toxicology program.

    Candidates should be able to establish an active grant funded research program in their area of expertise, preferably incorporating proteomic or metabolomic approaches using zebrafish, fruit fly, or similar model systems, with ample opportunities to develop collaborative projects across the breadth of the DNS faculty. Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate introductory biology and specialty courses in neuroscience, development, or immunology, and a graduate level courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
  • Develop a strong, independent research program, train graduate students in the department's Toxicology and Marine, Estuarine and Environmental Sciences programs.
  • Train undergraduate and graduate students in research.
  • Publish sustainably.
  • Support departmental self- governance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Classification 25- Education, Training, and Library Occupations Required Qualifications
  • PhD in biology or related disciplines.
  • Record of publishing, experience teaching or mentoring undergraduates to support student success.
  • Preferred Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Strong pedagogical skills

  • Strong writing skills
  • Record of application of proteomics, or metabolomic techniques.
  • Knowledge and application of bioinformatic analyses
