New Hire Bonus:
$6,000.00
New Hire Premium:
+6% of base rate of pay, matched up to 6% if contributed to Deferred Compensation Plan.
Shift Differential Pay:
P.M. shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) = 10% of base pay.

Clinical Nurse Leader - Labor & Delivery - Full Time - Shift
Compensation

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Clinical Nurse Leader classification has supervisory responsibility for a nursing unit or units during a shift.
Incumbents assist the Clinical Director and Clinical Supervisor in assessing total patient needs, evaluating performance of staff, and coordinating the unit with other Hospital units and services.
The Clinical Nurse Leader assumes full responsibility for management of the unit in the Clinical Director or Clinical Supervisor's absence.
Essential Functions:
Supervises staff and the operation of the unit on his/her designated shift, and is a role model for all staff.
Assists with development of unit schedules and daily staff assignments.
Participates in the performance appraisal process as assigned.
Ensures patient care providers meet approved Standards of Practice.
Promotes cooperative working relationships with physicians and other health care providers.
Develops assignments based upon patient care priorities and staff competency/skill level.
Essential Functions (continued):
Assists in implementing departmental policies and procedures.
Promotes departmental and unit based priorities/objectives including safety, environment of care, infection control standards, customer satisfaction, and performance improvement initiatives.
Collects and documents data about patients commonly seen on the unit according to prescribed methods.Interprets complex assessment data to determine whether patient has physiological and/or psycho social risk factors; records and reports assessment data.
Makes appropriate nursing decisions based on the assessment of the patient and interpretation of clinical data.Establishes nursing diagnoses and initiates appropriate interventions; uses appropriate resources to formulate a written plan of care; evaluates the effectiveness of nursing intervention and revises patient care plans as necessary.
Implements therapeutic care for patients and responds to changing patient conditions and/or complications of treatment; collaborates with the health care team in setting patient care priorities.
Anticipates patient care problems and responds to changes on the unit by prioritizing changes in patient status, emergencies, and unusual occurrences.
Assists in service restoration through conflict resolution.Communicates both potential and actual problems to Clinical Director or Clinical Supervisor and ensures the safety of staff, patients and visitors.
Performs and documents the nursing process in accordance with scientific principle and hospital policy as required by patient assignment.Implements the medical and nursing care plans and coordinates patient care activities with nurses, physicians and allied health professionals.
Performs tasks described in the unit specific components of nursing practice for the unit to which assigned.
Assesses patient/family level of understanding; develops teaching methodology accordingly; follows through on teaching plans for patients and their family members/support person(s) including: testing procedures, disease process, and home care instruction.
Essential Functions (continued):
Assesses knowledge, skills, and coping mechanisms essential to recovery and promotion of optimum health.
Anticipates and identifies patients/family psycho-social stressors and grief response and provides support through hospital and nursing services.
Coordinates and participates in patient care rounds and conferences.
Performs quality assurance monitoring; analyzes results of monitoring activities; participates in designing plan of improvement for identified problems.
Participates in orientation and training of staff members and serves as a role model and mentor to staff.
Completes all competencies, mandatory classes and educational coursework as required by the hospital.
Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of populations served by Kern Medical facilities.
Provides assistance during emergency responses and hospital alerts relative to the assigned patient care area(s).
Other Functions:
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Employment Standards:
Graduation from an accredited registered nursing program, possess and maintain valid and unrestricted license issued by the State of California to practice as a Registered Nurse,
AND four (4) years of nursing experience;
AND
Possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire. As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Provider certification and competency.
Depending on assignment, incumbents may be required to possess and maintain specific certificates of competency as a condition of employment.
Knowledge Of:
Advanced theory, techniques and practices of nursing; medical terminology, instruments and equipment; the uses and effects of medicines and narcotics.
Ability To:
Assign, supervise, train, assist and evaluate members of nursing unit; prepare and maintain records, charts, reports, and statistical data; deal with patients empathetically and respectfully while performing treatments prescribed; maintain a safe facility environment; work effectively under pressure; supervise and participate effectively in performance improvement processes; provide and promote a positive learning environment; establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, other hospital employees, patients and their families; dependent upon area of practice or department assignments, demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of populations served by Kern Medical facilities.

In the event of a disaster or civil disorder, all Kern Medical employees are to remain at work or to report to work in a safe and practicable manner.
If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, then possession of a current valid California Driver's License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.
