    Job Description

    Staff Pharmacist is under the direction of the Pharmacy Director, dispenses medication; exercising professional judgment in response to a provider's prescription according to government regulations to ensure the appropriate drug therapy for optimal patient care; counsels, assists, and educates physicians, nurses, and patients on appropriate medication doses, uses, side effects, cautions, and drug purposes. Supervises Pharmacy Technicians to maintain good order and flow of workload. Prepares sterile admixtures and hazardous chemotherapy drugs following USP 797, USP 800 and DRH policies and procedures.

    Responsibilities:
    • Reviews and enters medication orders into the EMR, ensuring the correct dose, frequency, route, dosage form, indication, and formulary status.
    • Pursues resolution of problems with allergies, potential interactions, therapeutic duplication(s) or clinical concerns.
    • Accurately dispenses and checks pharmacy technicians' work to ensure the correct drug, dose, dosage form and quantity are dispensed according to state and federal regulations as well as DRH policies and procedures.
    • Provides accurate and appropriate drug information to the public, patients and other healthcare professionals in a timely, professional and thorough manner.
    • Effectively applies their knowledge of the formulary system to appropriate drug product selection and formulary equivalent product suggestion for non-formulary orders.
    • Performs sterile admixture according to DRH competencies, policies and procedures and USP 797 and USP 800 rules and regulations.
    • Performs chemotherapy / hazardous drug compounding, sterile or nonsterile, according to DRH competencies, policies and procedures, and USP 797 and USP 800 rules and regulations.
    • Fills team member prescriptions.
    • Performs drug counts and site audits of medications areas.
    • Checks and removes expired medications from all drug storage areas.
    • Orders appropriate drug quantities from main pharmaceutical distributor.
    • Receives drug orders into the pharmaceutical distributor's online system.
    • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve department processes and issues.
    • Performs, teaches and oversees all job duties of a Pharmacy Technician I and Pharmacy Technician II.
    • Performs clinical pharmacy reviews, recommendations and interventions for pharmacokinetics, renal dosing, antibiotic monitoring, drug-bug mismatches, antimicrobial stewardship, and other clinical initiatives as assigned.
    • Effectively manages workload and activities in the pharmacy, with efficiency, speed, thoroughness and organization.
    • Communicates with all Pharmacy team members and other DRH team members and providers to provide safe and effective patient care.
    • Handles conflict professionally.
    • Coaches, trains and oversees pharmacy technicians on medication safety and processes.
    • Performs duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy.
    • Applies DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Must be able to read, write and perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and advanced pharmaceutical calculations
    • Typing speed of 40 wpm required
    • Computer literacy required
    • Must be in good standing with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy
    • Must NOT have any felonies or drug-related misdemeanors
    Education and/or Experience:
    • Must have completed a B.S. or Pharm.D. pharmacy degree at an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy
    • Previous hospital pharmacy experienced strongly preferred
    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Must have active DOCTOR OF PHARMACY license from the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy
    *Safety-Sensitive Position

    **This position requires respirator and fit testing. Required testing will be performed on all team members at risk for exposure to airborne infectious diseases, droplet producing procedures, or any caustic chemicals.
