The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manager, Manufacturing Engineering to lead the engineering function across multi-site operations. This role requires strong strategic leadership combined with hands-on operational expertise within a Consumer-Packaged Goods food manufacturing environment.
The successful candidate will oversee a team of 4 to 5 engineering professionals across major disciplines while managing external contractor companies. You will be responsible for plant facilities, utilities, capital planning, and engineering project execution, ensuring operational efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement across refrigerated, frozen, and fresh product manufacturing environments.
This position plays a critical role in driving capital projects, improving plant performance, and fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee plant facilities, utilities, and equipment maintenance
- Develop and implement structured work order planning and scheduling processes
- Manage the parts storeroom and establish effective MRO procedures
- Maintain and manage CAD libraries and technical documentation
- Lead capital management and long-term planning initiatives
- Drive the full lifecycle of capital projects, from concept and approval through design, implementation, and close-out
- Manage projects ranging from $500,000 to $2 million, including packaging automation, facility layouts, continuous improvement initiatives, and utility installations or upgrades
- Ensure disciplined project management methodologies are applied throughout
- Provide leadership and direction to the engineering team
- Develop and mentor direct reports
- Manage contractor companies effectively
- Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
What We're Looking For
- 5 to 7 years of experience within CPG food manufacturing, preferably in refrigerated, frozen, or fresh product environments
- Experience at plant level with exposure to HQ engineering functions
- 1 to 3 years of operations supervision
- Strong focus on plant facilities and operational engineering
- Proven experience leading capital projects using structured tools and methodologies.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
- Alternative degrees will be considered depending on relevant experience
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is an advantage
- MBA preferred
- Project Management certification desirable
- Experience in meat or dairy manufacturing environments advantageous
- Knowledge of USDA and FDA regulations
- Proficiency in ERP, CAD, and related systems
- Strong understanding of capital management and financial analysis of capital investments
- Knowledge of Industrial Engineering and Continuous Engineering principles related to food processing and continuous improvement
