    The

    Federal Civilian

    business unit supports a wide range of customers that span the federal, commercial, and nonprofit space.

    Our customers include the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, PAN Foundation, Library of Congress, Social Security Administration, Health and Human Services, and the USDA Forest Service.

    We partner with these agencies to build new capabilities, deliver products, establish data as a strategic asset for informed decision-making, modernize legacy systems, and build the digital service infrastructure necessary to scale their mission impact.


    Primary Responsibilities:


    As a Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for supporting the development and execution of the engineering discipline strategy.

    A Director of Engineering is a people manager, leader and mentor that effectively manages team operations in support of delivery success, and supports the Director of Engineering in effectively managing engineering operations within a business unit.

    You will serve as a subject matter expert that is able to successfully lead through direct reports and effectively communicate and execute against organizational objectives.

    In this role, a Director of Engineering will actively partner with leadership peers to achieve business objectives, and is developing a strategic mindset to influence organizational growth.

    A Director of Engineering must exhibit strong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate among varying teams and departments to support the development and implementation of standard processes and procedures in support of operational efficiencies.


    Primary expectations of a Director of Engineering include:
    Leads the engineering discipline for a portfolio of programs or an entire business unit, optimizing for long-term business performance and outcomes

    Develops and promotes engineering core values, knowledge-sharing, and approaches across disciplines and teams

    Defines, measures, and communicates the impact of engineering across a wide portfolio of programs; codifies lessons-learned

    Coaches and mentors senior engineering staff, building organizational structures and systems for scale

    Supports recruitment and staffing activities in support of meeting delivery goals

    Helps define, manage and deliver on key initiatives that support operational needs within the company

    Directs multiple engineering disciplines, including full-stack engineering, DevOps, security and compliance, etc.

    Presents portfolio/business unit ongoing Engineering work, future goals, and risks

    Mentors and communicates through engineering leadership in their responsible area

    Extensive understanding of government and practice market conditions in order to drive organizational improvements and innovation, as well as meet delivery obligations

    Responsible for performance management, timecard reviews, PTO management and team development

    Supports growth efforts, ensuring capabilities and interests of engineers align with the business

    Development of executive communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate business and practice initiatives, goals and strategies

    Maintains oversight of the business unit's current labor mix, with the ability to identify primary skills and experiences; supports the key personnel identification process


    Basic Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience

    4+ or more years of people management experience, responsible for defining expectations for team operations and performance management; 5+ years experience directing assignments for cross-functional team

    Extensive experience leading/directing an engineering practice/team
    Extensive experience supporting business development
    Extensive experience with strategic decision-making, people management, software development, customer interactions, formal and informal communication, and mentorship


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience working with state, local, and federal government customers

    Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
