    About the Position

    The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary Audiology clinical educator positions. In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year and summer sessions, applications are accepted continuously for temporary positions on a part-time basis with rare opportunities for temporary, full-time appointments. Positions may become available at any time and are typically filled on a quarterly basis. As a temporary Audiologist specialist, you will be responsible for directing and evaluating graduate audiology students and providing professional audiology services to individuals.

    Supervision of graduate student responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the Newborn Hearing Screening Follow-Up program and school and community hearing screening programs.
  • Oversee the Hearing Conservation testing program for WWU employees.
  • Direct, oversee, and evaluate CSD student conducted diagnostic and treatment activities.
  • Provide oral and written feedback to students for cases observed.
  • Direct and evaluate CSD students written reports, treatment plans, and progress reports; post-session patient and professional contacts; cleanup of work areas, maintenance of clinical clock hours, etc.
  • Provide written evaluations of student performances on a biquarterly basis.
  • Consult with faculty members and coordinate clinical procedures to correspond with academic coursework.
  • Model professional conduct.
  • Identify, diagnose, and treat hearing, auditory, and balance disorders and related problems

    Tasks include:

  • Use a variety of technical equipment such as audiometers, immittance equipment, video/audio recorders, computers, OAE, AEP, ENG/VNG, VEMP test equipment, real ear probe microphone/hearing aid analyzer equipment, etc.
  • Analyze data to determine the nature and severity of hearing, auditory, or vestibular impairment or loss to plan and manage aural habilitative and rehabilitative services for clients/patients.
  • Develop treatment programs under the general supervision of university faculty and with the cooperation of physicians, speech pathologists, psychologists, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, counselors, and classroom teachers; assist members of multi-disciplinary teams in setting diagnosis and therapy priorities and participate as a member of that team.
  • Provides non-medical rehabilitation services to persons when appropriate, including hearing aid selection, fitting and training procedures, use of auditory training equipment, application of audiometry training, speech reading, and counseling procedures, and preventative hearing conservation measures.
  • Maintain appropriate productivity and efficient time management to ensure adequate provision of direct clinical services and supervision of clinical practice experience for students.
  • Maintain a professional attitude toward patients, colleagues, students, and the position.
  • Required Qualifications
  • A master's degree in audiology;
  • a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA);
  • License to practice audiology and dispense hearing aids from the state of Washington;
  • And, two years of experience as an audiologist, including experience with both diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical doctorate (AuD) degree in audiology;
  • Experience supervising graduate students;
  • Experience as a clinical educator at a university;
  • Experience which includes assessment of pediatric and other difficult to test patients, auditory processing disorder (APD) assessment, and intervention/treatment of patients diagnosed with APD. And, experience with pediatric aural habilitation.
