Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for an Senior Compliance Engineer who will be responsible for providing global product compliance support to ensure that AWS hardware meets or exceeds product environmental compliance in all countries where AWS business exists or will expand.

You will be part of the Product Compliance Engineering team within AWS Global Trade and Product Compliance team (GTPC) that collaborates with Hardware Engineering, TPM, Supply Chain, Trade, Regulatory Analyst, and legal to implement compliance specifications and policies, builds compliance programs to support AWS hardware business initiatives including AI/ML products, consumer devices, datacenter infrastructure IT products, and speciality equipment. You will develop design-for-compliance specification and plan, troubleshoot and resolve compliance issues that arise in the course of AWSs NPI and other business processes.

GTPC is responsible for ensuring that the infrastructure equipment necessary to support the AWS services are imported/exported in a compliant manner across the multiple countries where AWS operates and will expand, including all product certification/safety regulations.

Key job responsibilities

1) Implement AWS compliance strategy, roadmap, and specification in the area of hazardous substances, material safety, and energy efficiency to meet business objectives such as new product launch, new technology development, onboarding new ODMs, etc.

2) Create procedures and guidelines to mitigate compliance issues early in the design phase, and ensure that AWS hardware meets governmental and industry regulations in international markets.

3) Deliver compliance risk assessment, design-for-compliance specification, design review, and certifications/declarations during product development to ensure new AWS hardware design meeting technical compliance requirement in the global market.

4) Influence internal and external partners and stakeholders to align on a compliance solution or mitigation path that favors AWS business objectives during product development and operation.

5) Engage closely with AWS hardware teams on product development to determine the impact of the proposed regulatory changes on AWS devices design, performance, reliability, and compliance, and assist R2MC, Regulatory Analyst, and Public Policy with technical input to establish AWS advocacy positions and strategies on the upcoming regulatory changes to mitigate compliance risks for AWS devices, and drive hardware innovation by advising hardware product teams on the scope and impact of the regulatory changes with clear design input.

6) Develop key metrics to evaluate the product compliance engineering programs performance, and build implementation plans to confirm our performance and compliance, against program metrics, internal company requirements, and regulations

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.

5+ years of product compliance experience in the area of restricted substance compliance including REACH/RoHS/POPs, TSCA, etc.

5+ years of experience in product development in electronic, IT, or machinery industry

Knowledge of energy efficiency compliance requirement for power supply, electronic device, and server product

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of product compliance experience in the area of restricted substance compliance including REACH/RoHS/POPs, TSCA, etc.

Familiar energy efficiency compliance requirement for power supply, electronic device, and server product

Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production

Experience with the project management of technical projects

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
