    Job Summary

Ship Operations is seeking a Scientific Data Systems Specialist. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

CORIOLIX (Cruise Observations Real-time Interface & Open Live Information eXchange) is a software package that has been in development since 2015 by a small team under the OSU Regional Class Research Vessel (RCRV) Program to support the science data needs of oceanographic research vessels.

CORIOLIX provides real-time data access and visualization, on both ship and shore, for a suite of oceanographic and meteorological sensors.

It also provides tools to support inventory tracking, situational awareness, data processing, quality assessment, event logging, and customized alerts. The software is designed to meet the needs of scientists, marine technicians, sensor specialists, and educators.

Interest in CORIOLIX has expanded beyond the program's three RCRVs to other research vessels (academic and government; domestic and international) and even to terrestrial stations.

This position serves the needs created by transitioning the CORIOLIX system into production on numerous oceanographic research vessels and other platforms, including: software and hardware installation, working with field technicians to incorporate sensor data feeds, and end-user training.

In addition, the position supports continued software development, software and hardware maintenance, end-user support, and security tasks.

    Hardware activities include:
Building new CORIOLIX hardware systems (procurement, configuration)
Field installation of hardware (on-site installation and commissioning)

Software development, maintenance and installation activities include:
Assisting with CORIOLIX application development (python, javascript, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Django, Linux)
    Installation and configuration of CORIOLIX
Support end-users with the incorporation of their scientific sensors in CORIOLIX

    Maintenance and administration activities include:
Remote state-of-health monitoring of deployed CORIOLIX systems
Periodic scheduled maintenance and upgrade events
Site visits for training (or other) including time at sea
Documentation of end-user configurations and support issues
