    JOB SUMMARY

    Paideia is a K-12 college preparatory school in the Emory University area of Atlanta. The high school enrolls approximately 450 students. The curriculum consists of extensive offerings in English, social studies, mathematics, modern languages, natural and physical sciences, art and music. Class size averages 15 students.

    The academic year is divided into two long terms of approximately 15 weeks and two short terms of 4 weeks. During the long term, students attend 6 hour-long classes covering the traditional disciplines. The short terms are designed to allow intensive study in a particular area of the curriculum. They also provide students with the opportunity to go on extended science field trips, to perform in the annual full-scale musical production, or to fulfill their off-campus community service internship requirement.

    There are two high school learning specialists. This position will involve working collaboratively with each other. The high school learning specialist coordinates information about individual student learning profiles and collaborates with students, families and teachers to develop learning plans and strategies for students who need extra academic support.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The main responsibilities of this position include:

    • Coordinating the Peer Tutoring Program
    • SAT/ACT Accommodation Coordination
    • Test Monitoring and Coordination
    • Tutoring Coordination
    • Interim Reports
    • Creating accommodation plans Other responsibilities done collaboratively with the other learning specialist are:
      • Provide individual learning support to students that targets breakdown points and demystifies student about their learning strengths and weaknesses
      • Meet with students and families to share concerns, identify learning issues, problem solve, strategize and note progress
      • Coach individual students to improve their learning habits
      • Identify when an outside evaluation would be useful and coordinate with families
      • Follow up on psychoeducational reports with families, students, and teachers
      • Assist admissions with understanding information about candidates with learning differences
      • Lead weekly meetings with members of the High School Support Group
      • Hold meetings with faculty to promote awareness of learning differences and effective interventions and accommodations
      • Coordinate with the junior high learning specialist on student transition from junior high to high school
      • Help with new students into the high school with any identified accommodations This position includes teaching 1 class in either the Long Terms or Short Terms depending on the need of respective departments. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

        Demonstrated knowledge of instructional pedagogy, learning services, testing support and an understanding of the development needs of high school students. Demonstrates cultural competency and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

        Important personal qualities include love of learning, interest in and demonstrated ability to teach and support adolescents, a sense of humor, organizational skill, energy and the ability to work effectively with a group of colleagues while demonstrating self direction and creativity in work products.

        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

        Minimum requirements include a BA in counseling, speech pathology, reading, literacy, or other related disciplines. Master's degree is preferred, not required. A minimum 5+ years of experience in education and/or learning services at the high school level.
