    The Carilion Clinic Transfer and Communication Center has been the go-to command center for Roanoke Memorial Hospital as well as six other Carilion hospitals and multiple clinics across 20 counties in southwestern Virginia and southern West Virginia. The Communication Center/EMS Dispatch Supervisor communicates, organizes, prioritizes, leads, facilitates, and problem-solves with other members of Carilion's leadership and patient care teams to ensure the delivery of safe, cost-effective, age appropriate, and high-quality patient care services. The Communication Center/EMS Dispatch Supervisor promotes employee engagement and service excellence. Position will be based in Roanoke, VA.

    Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Maintains all clinical requirements for a Comunication Center Basic, Intermediate, Paramedic, or Bed Coordinators.
    • Provides clinical staffing coverage as necessary to ensure operational continuity.
    • Provides direct supervision of staff during daily operations. Works with ground, air, and communications center teams to resolve operational issues in real-time. Assumes 24/7 accountability for operations, including on-call assignments. Mentors staff and clinical team leaders to role model positive work behaviors.
    • Ensures that the program structure, content and overall delivery of patient care services remains appropriate and compliant with Office of EMS regulations and internal policies/protocols. Acts as a clinical resource and internal educator/content expert, provides individual instruction or remediation as needed.
    • Effectively leads the conflict resolution and service recovery process. Identifies and resolves customer service issues to ensure the mission, vision and guiding principles of Carilion Clinic.
    • Demonstrates effective team building and leadership skills, including active listening, facilitating employee work groups and committees, and emotional intelligence. Annually develops and implements a base specific employee engagement action plan.
    • Responsible for hiring, performance appraisals, payroll management/timekeeping, coaching and corrective action of staff in conjunction with Manager.
    • Communicates regularly with Manager and Director.
    • Actively participates in safety, quality, and education committees.
    • Communicates key messages to staff via written and verbal communication. Coordinates and leads special projects as assigned to support the goals and objectives of Communication Center. Demonstrates accountability, follow-through, and loop closure in a timely manner.

    What We Require:

    Education: Must be graduate of an approved school or EMS program with Associate's degree or 4 years of equivalent experience.

    Experience: Two-year's experience in a leadership role preferred. Recent (within past year) experience in an Emergency Medical Services or Medical Transport agency required.

    Licensure/Certification/Registration: License/Certification is required, based upon discipline. EMS certification must be Intermediate or Paramedic. EMS certification must be certified in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic required (maintains National Registered Paramedic status preferred). AHA BLS - HCP. ACLS, PALS, Haz Mat Awareness, NRP and PHTLS or BTLS required within one year from date of hire.

    Other Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrates excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, team leadership, priority setting and work competency skills. Promotes a respectful, inclusive culture of service excellence. Must maintain continuing education hours to meet re-certification status as required by State and National standards.
