Project Leader Training and
Planning Period:

Primary Responsibilities:
As an SCA Project Leader you will serve as a teacher, supervisor, and role model for your crew
Facilitate team operations:
food planning/purchasing, tools, equipment, and vehicles for backcountry and frontcountry hitches lasting 8 – 10 days. Hitches in the Frank Church Wilderness may require extended backcountry living, up to 3 weeks at a time.
Position Summary:
SCA, America's #1 conservation service organization seeks qualified applicants to lead, educate, and inspire young adults in conservation service projects across Idaho for the 2024 field season.
Created in 2009, the SCA Idaho AmeriCorps Residential Program is designed to meet the environmental conservation, natural resource protection, community stewardship, and workforce development needs of public land managers in Idaho and the surrounding communities.
22 corps members and staff are housed at the Indianola Ranger Station, located in North Fork ID, and spend each week working on public land management projects in crews of 5-6 people.
Crews will spend significant amounts of time in backcountry settings. Trail maintenance in remote locations with outfitter re-supply will comprise at least 1/2 of the field season. Other projects in 2024 include historic preservation, fuels reduction, developed recreation management, and habitat surveys.Project Leaders assist with SCA member orientation, training of corps members in conservation work skills, and completion of service projects on public land throughout Idaho.
Project Leaders are the primary field supervisors for SCA crews of 4-5 members.They are responsible for ensuring the safe, complete and accurate execution of work projects in partnership with a variety of public land management agencies.
This position reports to the Program Coordinator.Specifically, the Crew Leader will:
Supervisor,
by facilitating teamwork, managing field-based tasks, and guiding crew dynamics
by training members in technical conservation work skills, mentoring personal and professional development, and teaching environmental stewardship
by organizing logistics, completing documentation, managing a budget, and communicating with SCA staff
Leader Qualifications:
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age, and ability to legally work in the US.
Must be able to attend mandatory SCA Project Leader training: April, 2024
Current First Aid certification & CPR required by the start of the training.
Experience supervising and mentoring young adults a plus.
Experience with conservation work skills or related skills preferred (i.e. trail maintenance, trail construction, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, fence building, gardening, etc...
Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 10 hours per day, exposed to the elements and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more.
Hike up to 10 miles/day with a 50-pound pack.Valid driver's license and driving record that meets SCA standards required.
Ability to meet SCA's criminal background check standards.
Must be willing to live @ remote housing location throughout season.
Desire to spend extended periods of time, up to 6 weeks, and take backcountry flights into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness.
