    Participates in and oversees the comprehensive care of the stem cell transplant recipient.

    The stem cell transplant coordinator also responsible for ongoing program development, quality assurance, staff development and promotion of multi-disciplinary program activity.

    Performs other duties as assigned.


    GENERAL DUTIES
    Essential Functions


    • Oversees and participates in the coordination of care for the pre/post-transplant recipient.
    • Monitors day-to-day operations of assigned staff, reacting effectively and efficiently to unplanned circumstances, demands, and challenges facing the department to ensure consistent quality of service.
    • Participates as requested on teams, committees, and special projects both internal and external to the organization.
    • Maintains a department staffing plan that meets organizational needs.
    • Demonstrates personal and professional growth and expertise and keeps staff updated by remaining current with state and federal associations and with professional trends, and by participating in community activities.
    • Assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates department goals that coincide with the hospital goals on a yearly basis.
    • Identifies and coordinates need for education of patient, family and/or significant other and provides education through individual instruction, the use of written materials and/or other available resources.
    • Participates in discharge planning; provides instruction to patient/family.
    • Maintains continuous communication with the referring physicians, team physicians, staff members, case managers, and any other necessary personnel. Provides necessary clinical information required for pre-authorization by 3rd party payers and validates that pre-authorization is complete prior to treatment.
    • Develops, reviews, and revises departmental policies and procedures and assures the department's compliance with all state and federal regulations.
    • Reacts effectively to unplanned circumstances, demands, and challenges facing the department.

    EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
    Previous experience in clinical area of assignment preferred.


    EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.


    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
    Current Louisiana RN license and CPR certification. BMTCN Certification preferred.


    SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    Must be able to successfully complete established competencies for the position within designated probationary period. Demonstrated patient teaching skills and compliance with protocol management of patients.
