    General Summary


    The Pre-Admission Testing Nurse plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth transition of patients through the healthcare system. This includes obtaining and reviewing health history prior to surgery, analyzing and assessing clinical data related to the patient's anesthesia risk, and coordinating with the anesthesia department to meet the patient's needs.



    Functional Duties and Responsibilities



    • Conduct accurate and complete assessments (including physical and psychological needs) with patients prior to admission, either in person or via telephone, and communicate information to appropriate team members to initiate the patient care plan.

    • Ensure pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished through the use of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

    • Provide individualized preoperative education, identify areas of knowledge deficit, and provide additional needed information.

    • Alert the anesthesia department to results of labs, physical assessment, and/or special needs of the patient prior to the date of surgery.

    • Demonstrate ability to work both independently and as an effective member of a healthcare team to expedite patient preadmission activities and the admission process.

    • Possess adequate understanding of operative procedures, required patient preparations, and expected post-operative course.

    • Knowledgeable in surgical procedures, medications, and anesthesia techniques to answer patient questions and give appropriate pre-operative instructions.

    • Identify and document abnormal assessment results, as well as obvious discharge planning challenges on all patients, and promptly report information to appropriate members of the healthcare team, including anesthesia and provider.

    • Initiate and complete all appropriate forms, both electronic and/or paper.

    • Participate in the weekly huddle to provide testing updates or information that would be important to upcoming cases.

    • Ensure completion of preadmission records through review of:

    • Physicians' orders

    • Informed consent

    • Preadmission testing

    • History and Physical

    • Participate in quality assessment and improvement plans of the department as directed by the Director and/or Manager.

    • Maintain competency through licensure requirements, core competencies, and attending other programs pertinent to job responsibilities.

    • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related patient needs appropriate to the age of the patients served.

    • Attend and participate in hospital/department meetings as required.

    • Comply with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations, and standards as related to the job.



    Perform all other related duties as requested or required by the Director and Supervisor.

    • Current state license

    • Current BLS and ACLS certification

    • Compensation

    • Minimum Pay: $36.50

    • Maximum Pay: $51.38
