    POSITION: Cook

    DEPARTMENT: Culinary

    SUPERVISOR: Director of Dietary Services

    WORK AREA: Skilled Nursing

    The purpose of this position is to prepare and provide food service to residents' in a cost-efficient manner to safely meet residents' need in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.

    Responsibilities for the Cook position:
    • Prepare residents' diets in accordance with the diet orders and daily menus.
    • Assist the Dietary Services Director to determine the amount and type of food necessary to prepare the daily menus.
    • Monitor use of food to eliminate waste.
    • Stock food in compliance with dietary policies and procedures.
    • Handle and prepare food in sanitary manner. Using barrier when handling cooked foods i.e. gloves, hair cover-up.
    • Prepare food, which is palatable and appetizing in appearance.
    • Follow oral and written directions.
    • Keeps work area clean and sanitize work surface after food preparation.
    • Follow written menus and recipes and spread sheets.
    • Understand and be able to prepare therapeutic diets.
    • Be responsible for avoiding food waste.
    • Assume responsibility for meeting meal schedules.
    • Work cooperatively with food service staff and other departments.
    • Come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
    • Attend in-service training programs for food service employees.
    • Perform other related duties as direct by his/her supervisor.
    • Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
    • Observe infection control procedure.
    • Follow Residents' Rights policies at all times.
    • Assume accountability for all data contained in the employees' handbook.
    • Participates in special event meals and activities.
    • Oversees dietary department in the absence of the food service director/supervisor.
    • Follow appropriate dress code; conduct yourself in a caring, courteous and professional manner.
    • All other duties assigned by your supervisor.
    Qualifications:
    • High school graduate or equivalency preferred.
    • 1-year experience in food service, preferably in Healthcare facilities and cooking.
    • Must have a genuine interest and desire to work with the senior population.
    • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
