    CDM Smith currently has an opportunity for a water quality specialist with 10+ years of previous consulting experience working on water quality related projects.

    The position will serve as a technical lead on watershed related projects where surface water and groundwater has been impacted by historic mining activities.

    This position will provide technical guidance and training to more junior staff, and on occasion supervise the work of junior engineers and scientist with project work.

    The preferred candidate will have extensive office and field experience working at Superfund and other contaminated sites, running complex field programs, preparing planning documents and preparing reports for environmental characterization and remediation projects.

    As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
    Performing surface water, groundwater, adit, and seep sampling.

    Additionally assist with surface and subsurface soil sampling, rock classification, monitoring well installation, oversight of drilling contractors, groundwater sampling, and hydraulic testing to support environmental projects.

    Performing hydrologic, geologic and/or hydrogeological investigations; describing geologic conditions, and preparing logs, contour plots and cross-section diagrams Reviewing draft assessments and calculations with respect to federal, state and local regulations.

    Working on a variety of assignments, which may include work plans, field studies, research investigations, data interpretation and evaluation, and report preparation.

    Ensuring that firm policies and practices are followed on all assessments. Independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Using professional judgment and knowledge of principles/techniques in making minor adaptations and modifications. Learning task management techniques and the CDM Smith management system.

    Regular Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 10 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

    The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

    Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering, or related environmental science discipline, however a master's degree is preferred.

    Previous experience working on federal projects, preferred experience on sites dealing with contaminated soils, sediments, surface water and groundwater that have been impacted by mining related wastes, large-scale mine sites impacted by historic mining activities.

    Experience working directly, and ongoing relationships, with Federal and state agencies 15 years' experience in the remediation industry - familiarity with soil, surface water, and groundwater remediation technologies, including experience in water quality, hydrology, and hydrogeology projects and tasks for Federal agencies for projects with the following scope: remedial investigation, feasibility study, risk assessment, post
    • RI/FS support including proposed plan and Record of Decision support, remedial design, and remedial design/remedial action oversight support.
    Experience working with EPA and USACE Mine influenced water (MIW) biochemical reactor (BCR)/passive treatment system experience is preferred.
