    TITLE:
    Anticipated School Psychologist


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Requires master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university

    NJAC 6A:
    9-13.9


    • Possess certification and/or licensure from the State of New Jersey.
    • Required criminal history background and proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal resident alien status

    REPORTS TO:
    Director of Special Services/Programs


    JOB GOAL:
    Helps children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

    They collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments for all students that strengthen connections between home and school.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    School Psychologist provides the following services:

    • Consultation
    a. Collaborate with teachers, parents and administrators to find effective solutions to learning and behavior problems.

    b. Help others understand child development and how it affects learning and behavior.

    c. Strengthen working relationships between teachers, parent and service providers in the community.


    • Evaluation
    a. Evaluate eligibility for special services.

    b. Assess academic skills and aptitude for learning.

    c. Determine social-emotional development and mental health status. d. Evaluate learning environments.


    • Intervention
    a. Provide school based counseling to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance.

    b. Work directly with children to help resolve problems in adjustment and learning.

    c. Provide training in areas such as social skills, anger management, grief, divorce and substance abuse.

    d. Help families and schools manage crisis such as death, illness or community trauma.


    • Prevention
    a. Aid in the design of programs for children at risk of failing school.

    b. Promote tolerance, understanding and appreciation of diversity within the school community.

    c. Assist in the development of programs that will make schools safer and more effective learning environments.

    d. Collaborate with school staff and community agencies to provide services directed at improving psychological and physical health.

    e. Develop partnership with parents and teachers to promote healthy school environments.


    • Case Management
    a. Develop and implement appropriate individual education plans based on the specific needs of students.

    b. Conducts annual IEP meetings, consent meetings, reevaluation plan meetings and eligibility meetings.

    c. Participates in the Instructional Support Team meetings.

    d. Monitor students' personal and academic progress.

    e. SEMI eligible services are to be accurately entered in the online service documentation tool on a daily basis.

    f.

    All direct services, including nursing services such as medication administration, submitted for reimbursement must be prescribed in the related services section of the student's IEP.

    The cover/signature page, related services section, and the evaluations and assessments prescribing the related service(s) must be maintained in an accurate and timely manner.


    • Research and Planning
    a. Evaluate the effectiveness of academic and behavior management programs.

    b. Identify and implement program and strategies to improve schools.

    c. Provide workshops and presentations to teachers, parents, and professionals to improve school practices and politics.


    • Professional Development
    a. Attend professional development conferences on topics relevant to the field of School Psychology.


    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    In accordance with DEA contract Article VI, the work year shall be ten month contract. Starting salary to be negotiated by the Board of Education. Salary guide in accordance with DEA contract to be utilized thereafter.


    EVALUATION:

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and State Statute.
