    Position Summary

    Under administrative direction and delegation, is responsible for the twenty-four-hour (24) organization and coordination of one or more patient care units. May be required to float throughout LMHS and perform other duties as requested.

    Responsibilities:
    • Participate in daily bed briefings by communicating staffing and staffing needs to management team.
    • Evaluate staffing coverage and replace call-offs and float staff, as appropriate.
    • Complete staffing report and e-mail to management team
    • Complete House Supervisor report and e-mail to management team
    • Carry cell phone delegated to the House Supervisor and respond to alerts.
    • Evaluate admission and assign beds, as appropriate for patient needs and staff availability.
    • Make rounds on each unit - follow-up with issues and problems from previous shift.
    • Work with charge nurse to handle complaints from family, patients, and staff.
    • Settle disputes among staff members/departments (i.e., who floats, who gets patient, etc.)
    • Attend and assist with codes and support family members.
    • Oversee building emergencies (i.e. fire, flood, weather emergencies, disasters, drills, codes, etc.) and serve as disaster management coordinator.
    • Morgue cooler temperature check and documentation
    • Contact Manager / Administrator On-Call, as needed.
    • Email Daily Census to designated group.
    • Prepare master board sheets for upcoming week.
    • Attend House Supervisor meetings as scheduled.
    • Attend all required education and complete WebEd courses.
    • Attend Lifeline/Eye Bank Organ Donation Training, as needed.
    • Review all policies that pertain to House Supervisors
    • CPR recertification
    • Review Lifeline and Death policy and procedure (biannually)
    • Schedule add-on surgeries, call in surgical staff for emergencies.
    • Cover body fluid exposures and process needle sticks, in the absence of Infection Preventionist - must be trained by Infection Preventionist to obtain informed consent from source patient and counsel needle stick employee.
    • Arrange interpretive services for patients.
    • Obtain supplies from Purchasing, Surgery, GI Lab, etc.
    • Accompany funeral homes to and from morgue.
    • Deaths - assist staff with contacting Lifeline and obtain Lifeline consents, coroner, and funeral home; assist family members in decision-making & document in EMR; private autopsies, get forms signed, and communicate with OSU.
    • Remove suspected impaired employees from their duties and notify the manager on-call.
    • Assist in developing policies that House Supervisors are involved with.
    • Attend special meetings and conferences.
    • Precept new employees
    Requirements:
    • Minimum requirement, high school diploma or GED.
    • Maintain CPR certification.
    • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
    • Advanced computer skills.
    • Works in a normal patient care environment with minimal physical discomforts due to environment hazards, i.e., temperature and noise. Occasional exposure to unpleasant odors, soiling of clothing, infectious hazardous materials, and confrontation with unruly patients and visitors.
