- Monitor the progress of chronic illnesses and intervene as necessary, following established policies and protocols.
- Administer vaccinations and prescribe medications or treatments for acute and chronic conditions, including performing minor surgeries within training and competency limits.
- Conduct routine physical exams to assess the control or status of chronic conditions and diagnose new conditions.
- Evaluate patients for the need for specialty referrals and review consultation reports, approving or disapproving recommendations as appropriate.
- Order and review the results of laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic tests as needed.
- Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to facilitate medical reclassification and requests for non-formulary medications.
- Provide routine and emergency medical care to patients according to scheduled shifts.
- Examine, diagnose, and treat patients within the scope of practice defined by the State of Ohio Nursing Board.
- Conduct rounds on infirmary patients as directed by the CMO.
- Document medical information gathered during patient interviews following relevant guidelines, policies, and protocols, including all assessments, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up parameters.
- Cooperate with medical quality oversight provided by the CMO and accept suggestions, redirection, and guidance.
- Attend professional institutional-specific meetings as requested by the Warden, Deputy Warden, or CMO.
- Participate actively in monthly institution medical Continuous Quality Improvement meetings.
- Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
- License to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Ohio.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Experience in providing healthcare services to diverse populations preferred.
- Knowledge of correctional healthcare practices and regulations is a plus.
